Hello everyone,

I have installed matte IKEA Metod cabinet fronts in my kitchen and am now facing the challenge of cleaning them properly without damaging the matte finish or surface. It is important to me to effectively remove stains, fingerprints, and light dirt, while avoiding harsh cleaning agents or abrasive cloths that could potentially cause scratches or damage the fronts. Does anyone have experience with which products and methods work best to keep matte IKEA Metod fronts clean and well-maintained over time? Are there any specific tips for cleaning matte laminate or foil fronts from the Metod system that I should definitely keep in mind? Thanks in advance for your advice!

I clean my Metod fronts with a microfiber cloth, occasionally using a few drops of dish soap in the water. Important: Always dry thoroughly afterward to prevent water spots, which can be especially noticeable on matte finishes.

If something is stuck more firmly, simply place a damp cloth with dish soap on it, let it sit for a short time, then gently loosen it. This helps avoid scratches and keeps the matte surface intact.

Good morning everyone,

to follow up on Lisebau’s question:

The frequency of cleaning naturally depends on the kitchen and how it is used, but generally, I recommend wiping matte surfaces dry at least once a week and removing stains immediately in daily use before they dry.

For grease splatters, slightly warm soapy water with a soft sponge without an abrasive side often works well. For heavier deposits, you can apply a mixture of water and a few drops of dish soap, let it sit briefly, and then gently wipe it off. It is important that no residue remains – it’s best to wipe again with clear water and dry afterward.

This maintains the matte finish and prevents unattractive shiny spots or discoloration.

I completely agree. Stains or residues tend to show up quickly, especially on matte surfaces. However, I wonder if wiping multiple times might wear down the surface a bit. Does anyone have long-term experience with this? Or is it just a misconception?

When used properly with soft cloths and mild cleaners, mechanical wear from repeated wiping is minimal. Damage generally occurs due to improper use of abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals.

Thank you very much for the very helpful and detailed answers.

To summarize: mild, pH-neutral cleaning agents, preferably dishwashing detergent, soft microfiber cloths, thorough wiping with clean water, and drying are the gold standard.

I will try to stick to this routine and avoid home remedies like vinegar, even though they may seem tempting. For stubborn dirt, soaking in soapy water remains the best advice.

If anyone knows a proven special cleaning method or product for matte films in the Metod system, I would still appreciate any recommendations!

A small additional tip from me: If you’re really struggling with a stain that won’t come off with dish soap, you can also try gently using a rubber eraser (yes, you read that right!) on the spot. It works surprisingly well on matte surfaces without causing damage. Just rub lightly, not too hard.

It doesn’t work on every stain, but sometimes it’s a great secret weapon against small, stubborn marks.
