Hello everyone, I am currently planning the layout of my open-plan kitchen and living area and want to integrate the Ikea Metod cabinets seamlessly. Since the Metod system is quite modular and functional, I’m wondering how to incorporate the cabinets visually and practically so they fit well with open living spaces and don’t look like typical kitchen furniture. My goal is to create a smooth transition between the cooking and living zones without the kitchen overpowering the space or appearing too bulky. Perhaps you have tips on color choices, combining with other furniture pieces, or suggestions for room layout to make everything feel cohesive. I’m also interested in any experiences you have with suitable lighting or decoration to emphasize the open-plan character. Thanks in advance!

I always wonder why everyone is so keen on bright colors.Of course, this is open to debate, but in open-plan layouts, choosing light colors is often a design strategy to create a sense of brightness and spaciousness. Dark surfaces can quickly feel overwhelming if not combined carefully. However, bold colors can certainly be used as accents to emphasize character.

Especially in open kitchens, such a bold move can really enhance the entire atmosphere.Exactly! And with well-placed spotlights or light strips, you can even make dark cabinets truly shine. Don’t let trends limit you – your kitchen should please you and be enjoyable!

Additionally, I recommend choosing handles in a consistent style, as they significantly influence the overall appearance.
Thanks for all the great tips so far! A quick question: Do you think it works well to combine Metod fronts in high-gloss white with an oak wood countertop if the living area mainly features wood tones as well? I want to avoid the kitchen feeling too sterile but like the clean look of the high-gloss fronts. How can you create a balanced and cozy atmosphere in this case?
