Hello everyone, I am currently planning the layout of my open-plan kitchen and living area and want to integrate the Ikea Metod cabinets seamlessly. Since the Metod system is quite modular and functional, I’m wondering how to incorporate the cabinets visually and practically so they fit well with open living spaces and don’t look like typical kitchen furniture. My goal is to create a smooth transition between the cooking and living zones without the kitchen overpowering the space or appearing too bulky. Perhaps you have tips on color choices, combining with other furniture pieces, or suggestions for room layout to make everything feel cohesive. I’m also interested in any experiences you have with suitable lighting or decoration to emphasize the open-plan character. Thanks in advance!

Additionally, you can experiment with the color combination: choosing the island in a slightly darker shade than the rest of the kitchen unit creates contrast and visual depth without overwhelming the space.

Wall cabinets above the island can quickly ruin the open feel.

I agree, but with clever wall cabinets—such as minimalist designs or shallow upper cabinets with glass fronts—it can be handled elegantly. It’s just important not to exclude wall cabinets altogether.

What everyone here is saying sounds great! Don’t be discouraged and try small samples or digital 3D planners so you can get a feel for what you really like! Openness in design doesn’t mean lacking style; on the contrary – you are definitely on the right track!

You’re welcome, and good luck with the implementation! Also, remember to regularly step back during the furnishing process to better assess the overall impression. This helps create harmonious and functional solutions.
