Hello everyone, I have been using the IKEA Platsa system at home for some time and am wondering about the best way to regularly remove dust from it. The surface is mostly white and seems quite sensitive to scratches or moisture. What cleaning methods or products are most suitable for gently removing dust without damaging the surface? I am especially interested in tips on preparation, recommended tools, and maintenance advice, as I want to keep the cabinet in good condition over the long term. Thanks in advance for your experiences and recommendations!

Hey everyone, I can confirm that my Platsa still looks great even after months of regular use, just by dusting it with a dry microfiber cloth! I also often wipe the shelves quickly with a feather duster when I’m in a hurry. The key is to avoid harsh cleaners and not to make the furniture too wet. That way, it lasts a long time and looks like new! Recently, I also tried a feather duster with a rubber edge, which works really well for picking up small lint particles.

In summary, for regular dust removal from IKEA PLATSA, a dry or slightly damp microfiber cloth is most suitable. The surfaces are sensitive to moisture and chemicals due to the melamine coating. Therefore, avoid using aggressive cleaning agents. For hard-to-reach areas, soft brushes or cotton swabs are helpful. For stubborn dirt, the manufacturer recommends using a very mild cleaning solution, ensuring the surface dries quickly afterward.

Just a quick note: use a dry microfiber cloth. No water. No cleaning agents. This way, you avoid damage.

You have a point, but I think slightly damp is fine as long as you dry wipe afterwards. It just makes the result feel fresher and you don’t get the impression of just spreading the dust around. Just don’t make it wet or scrub vigorously, then it’s all good 🙂

This assumes that everyone knows exactly how much moisture is acceptable – which is often not the case. Clear guidelines are better to prevent damage. To be on the safe side, it’s best to clean only with dry methods and address stains specifically.

A small practical tip: When dusting daily, folding the microfiber cloth slightly helps to use the surface optimally and allows the cloth to pick up dust better. For corners or profiles, I recommend a small paintbrush, which provides more precision and protects the surface. Avoid stronger cleaning agents, as they can dissolve the melamine coating.
