sadimauHello everyone,
I am currently planning to remodel my bathroom and am looking for space-saving furniture that is still functional. I came across the IKEA Platsa range and am particularly interested in whether there are models or combinations within the Platsa furniture that are especially suitable for bathroom use, meaning:
- Resistant to moisture
- Compact dimensions with good storage layout
- As adaptable as possible to different room sizes and shapes
Does anyone have practical experience or specific recommendations on which Platsa elements are especially suitable for a small to medium-sized bathroom? Are there any limitations regarding their use in bathrooms that should be considered?
I would appreciate detailed tips or further insights to help me make a well-informed decision.

Hello sadimau,
Your question is quite interesting! The IKEA Platsa series is primarily known for flexible living space solutions, but there are definitely options you can use for the bathroom.
First, regarding moisture: The Platsa series is made of coated particleboard, which offers some moisture resistance. However, direct water contact should be avoided whenever possible, as these cabinets are not specifically designed as bathroom furniture.
Here are a few tips for using them in the bathroom:
- Use the lower cabinets as storage for towels or cosmetics, preferably in areas not exposed to splashing water.
- The combination of base and upper units allows you to create storage even in tight niches.
- Smooth-front doors are often recommended because they are easier to clean.
- With the different depths available (35 cm (14 inches) or 60 cm (24 inches)), you can adapt well to various room layouts.
- The modular design enables stacking cabinets to the desired height.
In summary: Platsa is not a typical bathroom cabinet, but with modular adjustments, it can be an efficient and space-saving solution if you pay attention to moisture exposure.

Hello sadimau,
In my opinion, the Platsa furniture is indeed an option if the bathroom is not a permanently damp space like a shower. I have used the Platsa range in a relatively dry area of my own bathroom.
What you really need to consider:
- The furniture is not waterproof; moisture should ideally not come into direct contact with the surfaces.
- For small bathrooms, the narrower modules with a depth of 35 cm (14 inches) are better suited.
- The option to build corner cabinets or stack units helps to make optimal use of space.
- Installation is straightforward, although some DIY skills are required.
I would recommend sealing the furniture well, especially the cut edges, to prevent damage.
In summary: Platsa furniture can be a space-saving solution as long as its limitations regarding moisture are taken into account.

Great topic! I remodeled my bathroom with Platsa and am completely satisfied.
The possibilities are huge; I chose low-profile cabinets that fit perfectly next to my sink.
A tip: Use the inside surfaces of the doors for small holders, it saves a lot of space. And most importantly: stay creative, Platsa is extremely flexible!
All I can say is: go for it! 🙂

As an addition: The load-bearing capacity of the Platsa elements should also be taken into account, especially when considering storing heavy items such as washing machine or dryer accessories.
Using furniture feet that are suitable for bathrooms (i.e., rustproof and water-resistant) also improves durability.
The assembly instructions should be followed carefully to avoid structural weaknesses that could become apparent with long-term use.
