Hejhej,

Yesterday, I visited IKEA and looked at the RAMSJÖ front in white... Both my husband and I felt that the front

1. has a pinkish tint,
2. shows different shades on the panels (top/bottom versus sides and center section).

Unfortunately, no full kitchen is assembled, and the only display model available is the 30 cm (12 inch) door in the kitchen showroom, which (unfortunately?!) is placed between two ivory-colored fronts.

Has anyone seen or owns a full kitchen with these fronts and can offer some advice?

Thanks!

Yes.

Ramsjö is not painted like the other fronts; Ramsjö is tinted (stained) and coated with a matte clear lacquer, which allows the wood grain to still be visible.
I don’t recall a pink tint, but Ikea does not have daylight lamps, only a mix of different light spectra.

Exactly, the lighting is indeed a problem. That’s why I’m asking if anyone has this kitchen at home and how they would assess the color...

Is the front panel removable in the showroom? If so, you could take it to the restaurant and examine it in daylight. If that’s not possible, I would buy one, check it in daylight, and then return it immediately—provided the front panel is not covered with a protective film…

Hello everyone,

Ramsjö white does have a slight pinkish tint that will likely become more noticeable as the front darkens over time. Ramsjö is a solid wood front, with the central part made from multiple layers of veneer. Due to this different construction and the fact that not always the “same tree” is used, these variations in appearance occur. No offense intended, but I find such questions quite amusing. There are very few fronts left made from real wood nowadays that have “character” and naturally age. The adhesive wood-effect foils are, of course, more uniform but not nearly as beautiful or as high quality as solid wood—although, is that really what I want?

Just ask a colleague in the kitchen department; they’ll gladly remove one of the sample fronts for you and point out where the nearest emergency exit door with daylight is.

Best regards

Hello Nayla,

I am definitely a fan of real wood fronts – that’s exactly why I’m looking for one! – but if it is white-glazed, I prefer it to have a wood/yellowish tint (like I would expect from birch) rather than a pink hue...
