ᐅ BILLY shelf doors still squeak after lubrication – what are the next steps?

altanHello everyone,
I have lubricated the doors on my Billy shelf again to eliminate an annoying squeaking noise. Unfortunately, the squeaking still occurs even though I applied WD-40 and some silicone oil to both the joints and the hinges.
My question is: What further steps can I take to permanently eliminate the noise? Could the material of the shelf itself be the cause, or are there specific methods or products that might be more effective?
I would like to avoid replacing the doors completely. So, what can I do if lubrication doesn’t help and the squeaking persists?

What additional steps can I take to permanently eliminate the noise?Permanently stopping the squeaking on BILLY bookshelf doors usually requires a combination of proper lubrication, cleaning, and possibly replacing damaged parts.
1. Check screws and tighten or replace them if necessary.
2. Thoroughly remove old lubricant residues (use alcohol or acetone carefully).
3. Use a dry lubricant such as graphite or PTFE spray, as these do not become sticky.
4. Check whether the hinges are bent or warped.
If the persistent problem is due to material wear, replacing the hinges might be advisable. BILLY uses simple steel hinges, which can be swapped for higher-quality alternatives.

Remove the doors, completely loosen the hinges, and carefully oil every part Exactly. You need to allow the entire hinge to move freely; otherwise, the squeaking noise will persist.Similar topics
