Hello everyone, I have a question where I would really appreciate your experience: What is the best way to clean IKEA METOD kitchen fronts without causing scratches or discoloration of the surface?

I have already tried several cleaning products, but often there are unpleasant marks left behind or the fronts look streaky afterward. Since the surfaces are often made of plastic or laminated, I don’t want to damage them, but they also need to be cleaned thoroughly.

Which cleaning methods or products can you recommend? Are there any home remedies that work without harming the fronts? I am especially interested in how you deal with stubborn stains – how do you clean them without risk?

Thank you very much for your tips and advice!

I completely understand how frustrating that can be! I was also worried about damaging the surface of my kitchen, especially since we have small children who often spill things. It’s really important to avoid harsh cleaners and abrasive sponges, as they can leave marks and stains.

What helped me a lot was using a microfiber cloth with lukewarm water and a few drops of dish soap. This removes most dirt while keeping the material intact.

If there’s really stubborn dirt, I sometimes use a baking soda paste (baking soda plus water) and gently rub. Just be careful not to press too hard, or you might still get scratches. Afterwards, I wipe it again with a clean cloth.

Please be gentle with yourselves: the fronts are delicate, but cleaning doesn’t have to be complicated. Just handle them carefully, and you’ll enjoy them for a long time!

A microfiber cloth and warm water are usually sufficient.

For tougher stains, use a mild soapy solution and wipe gently.

Do not use abrasive sponges.

For effective and material-friendly cleaning of Ikea METOD fronts, I recommend the following procedure:

- Use only a soft microfiber cloth
- Use lukewarm water with a few drops of a neutral dish soap
- Avoid abrasive sponges or aggressive cleaners containing solvents or bleach
- For stubborn stains, a paste made of baking soda and water can be applied carefully and then completely removed

Additionally, it is important that moisture does not remain on the surface for too long to prevent discoloration. After cleaning, the front should be wiped dry with a clean, dry cloth.

Following these steps helps preserve the surface texture and minimizes the risk of scratches or discoloration.

Great thread, excellent question! I love my IKEA METOD fronts and, of course, want to keep them clean without worrying about scratches. 😊

Here’s a little tip from me: I’ve found that stains that have dried a bit are best soaked first with lukewarm water and then gently wiped with a cloth. This way, stubborn spots come off much more easily!

And never clean with too much pressure—I did that in the beginning and unfortunately left marks.

Keep it up! With the right tips, cleaning can actually be enjoyable! 👍

One more small tip from me: I have found that stains that have already started to dry are best soaked first with lukewarm water and only then gently wiped with the cloth.

I completely agree. I once asked someone who cleans professionally – they confirmed that soaking is often underestimated, especially with oily or stubborn food residues.

It definitely takes more time, but it is much gentler on surfaces and avoids the risk of having to redo work using stronger agents.
