Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a Brimnes bed from IKEA and would like to know if there are any cleaning or care products recommended specifically by IKEA or external manufacturers that work especially well with the materials of this model. I am mainly interested in cleaning, maintenance, and possibly protective products that not only preserve the surface but also extend the lifespan without affecting the appearance or causing any damage.

Does anyone have specific manufacturer recommendations or tried-and-tested products that are ideal for the BRIMNES? I am particularly interested in sustainable and low-emission alternatives.

Thank you very much for your experience and tips!

I would recommend paying attention to the following:

- pH-neutral cleaners without harsh chemicals
- Microfiber cloths for cleaning to avoid scratches
- Care oils or wax only if the furniture is made of wood or real veneer; avoid these on melamine-coated furniture

Thank you very much for the detailed response and the manufacturer’s advice!

Is it possible that some of these care products could soften or discolor the coating? Are there any specific ingredients that should definitely be avoided?

I want to be on the safe side, as the surface of the Brimnes looks quite thin.

Yes, that is definitely possible. Cleaners containing alcohol, ammonia, or strong solvents can damage melamine surfaces. Abrasive or scrubbing agents can also dull the surface or cause micro-scratches.

In general, you should avoid:

- Alcohols (e.g., isopropanol)
- Ammonia-based cleaners
- Abrasive cleaners
- Solvents such as acetone or terpenes

The best products have a neutral or slightly alkaline pH balance and contain no aggressive additives. A mild all-purpose cleaner suitable for laminate or coated furniture is usually the safest choice.

In addition to the previous discussion, I would like to point out that regularly wiping dry after cleaning can significantly extend the lifespan of the BRIMNES surface. Residual moisture can sometimes have a negative effect, especially on edges and joints.

Furthermore, there are no official care products from IKEA for BRIMNES. Therefore, the best advice is generally to use mild, low-toxicity cleaners and apply them carefully.

A brief recommendation: Always test any new product first on an inconspicuous area to detect any color or surface changes early.

I’m really impressed by your discussion here! There’s a lot of valuable experience shared. 😊

I also had a BRIMNES bed and maintained it using very simple methods: a soft cloth and lukewarm water, then let it dry – no fuss needed!

Still, I occasionally tried a mild eco-friendly furniture cleaner, and it didn’t cause any harm. Clean regularly, and you’ll enjoy it for a long time!

Thanks to everyone for the valuable tips – that’s what makes this forum great!
