Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a Brimnes bed from IKEA and would like to know if there are any cleaning or care products recommended specifically by IKEA or external manufacturers that work especially well with the materials of this model. I am mainly interested in cleaning, maintenance, and possibly protective products that not only preserve the surface but also extend the lifespan without affecting the appearance or causing any damage.

Does anyone have specific manufacturer recommendations or tried-and-tested products that are ideal for the BRIMNES? I am particularly interested in sustainable and low-emission alternatives.

Thank you very much for your experience and tips!

Hello CHENPAR,

your question is very good and important because care products can indeed have a significant impact on the durability and appearance of furniture like the BRIMNES. IKEA usually provides only general care instructions, such as using a damp, well-wrung cloth and mild cleaners to protect the surfaces.

For specific care products, there are actually some manufacturers specializing in furniture care—for example, products based on natural oils or biodegradable cleaners that are especially gentle. I would recommend paying attention to the following:

- pH-neutral cleaners without aggressive chemicals
- Microfiber cloths for cleaning to avoid scratches
- Care oils or wax only if the furniture is made of wood or real veneer; avoid these on melamine-coated furniture

Brands like Frosch or Sonett are known for sustainable and gentle cleaning products, including for furniture. They are not made specifically for BRIMNES but can generally be used without concern. Important: Always test on an inconspicuous area first to rule out any reactions.

If you have any further questions, I’m happy to help!

I would like to add that the BRIMNES series is mostly made of coated particleboard, which excludes the use of certain cleaning agents. Special waxes or oils are not suitable here, as they can gradually dissolve the surface over time.

Gentle cleaning with a mild all-purpose cleaner that does not contain solvents is usually sufficient.

If you prioritize sustainability, products without synthetic fragrances or microplastics are recommended.

Since IKEA does not offer official care products specifically for BRIMNES, the only option is to use general furniture care products with appropriate ingredients.

In short: Do not use products containing alcohol or ammonia. Simply use a damp cloth and mild soap.

It’s better to remove stains quickly, otherwise they may set in.

This is usually completely sufficient.

Honestly, for BRIMNES, a little care and patience usually do the trick! 😄 A good microfiber cloth and lukewarm water are often the best solution – no need for high-tech chemicals.

If you want to go a bit further, I personally like using products labeled "environmentally friendly," for example from drugstores; they work quite well. I’ve tried Frosch, for instance, and was pleasantly surprised. It works quickly, smells nice, and keeps everything fresh.

And hey – it’s a pity IKEA doesn’t officially provide any advice, but maybe they want us to treat our furniture like little works of art 😉

Due to the material composition of BRIMNES (mainly melamine-coated particleboard), cleaning products without solvents, alcohols, or aggressive acids should be used.

I recommend using the following types of products:

- pH-neutral furniture cleaners without fragrances
- Microfiber cleaning cloths
- Avoidance of wax-based care products

There are no specific manufacturer recommendations from IKEA. Consumers should follow general furniture care guidelines.

Additionally, the product should always be tested on an inconspicuous area first.

Regular and gentle cleaning increases durability and prevents surface damage.
