Hello dear IKEA fans,

I seem to remember that with the old Faktum kitchen system, it was possible to connect two smaller fronts into one taller front using metal connector rods (on the inside; from the outside, it looked like two separate drawers). I hope you understand what I mean.

I can’t seem to find this option in the new Metod kitchen system. Does it not exist? That would be really inconvenient, as I definitely need 30cm (12 inches) high drawers.

Best regards from Berlin

Hello, that is also possible with METOD. For example,

White kitchen base cabinet with two drawers and front panel

Base cabinet for sink/3 fronts/2 drawers, white, Veddinge white

Oh, thank you very much, IKEA expert. I was always looking in the wrong category and somehow thought they must have something like that in their range.

Now I have a second question regarding the 140 cm (55 inches) half-height cabinet:

If the cabinet is 140 cm (55 inches) tall, then the niche height should be the total height minus the 1.8 cm (0.7 inches) base panel, right?
So only 138 cm (54 inches)? That means I can’t fit a built-in fridge with a niche height of 140 cm (55 inches), correct?
Oh man, that would be really unfortunate. Then I’d only have a 122 cm (48 inches) fridge option (which would leave some space unused), or I’d have to shorten a regular tall cabinet.
Does anyone have this cabinet at home and could please measure the niche height? That would be really great.

Best regards

So only 138?

Yes.

So I can’t fit a built-in fridge with a niche height of 140 cm (55 inches), right?

Correct, unless the manufacturer’s niche measurement is incorrect.

Would 200 cm (79 inches) be possible?

You could use HELANDE at the top or bottom. It would be easier than shortening a door.

Yes, the issue with the door will definitely be a challenge, especially since the manufacturers don’t provide any information online about the minimum cabinet door height. So far, I've only dealt with IKEA kitchens without built-in refrigerators, and it seems that installing a built-in fridge, including the door, is quite a challenge.
