Hello community,

I have installed Ikea PAX sliding doors at home and would like to approach the cleaning and maintenance of these doors as professionally as possible. My question is: How do I properly clean and maintain Ikea PAX sliding doors without damaging the surfaces or the mechanical track system?

I am particularly interested in:
- Which cleaning products are suitable or should definitely be avoided?
- How should I clean the aluminum tracks?
- Are there specific care products for the door fronts (e.g., glass, melamine, or lacquer) and the running tracks that ensure long-lasting durability?
- Are the rollers or running tracks included in the maintenance, and if so, how?

I would appreciate it if you could share your experiences or tips. Thanks in advance!

For cleaning the PAX sliding doors, I recommend using warm water and a soft cloth. Avoid harsh cleaning agents to prevent damage. Clean the tracks with a mild household cleaner and dry thoroughly afterward. Wipe the rollers with a dry cloth if needed; do not use oil.

Regarding the cleaning and maintenance of Ikea PAX sliding doors, here is a structured overview:

- Door surfaces (melamine, glass, lacquer): Use a mild, pH-neutral cleaner without abrasive ingredients. Microfiber cloths are ideal because they dry out quickly and do not cause scratches.

- Aluminum tracks: First remove coarse dirt with a dry cloth or brush. Then wipe down with a damp, well-wrung cloth.

- Rollers: Usually, these do not require lubrication as they are maintenance-free. You can gently clean any dirt with a damp cloth.

- Maintenance: Avoid chemical solvents or aggressive cleaners, as they can damage the surfaces.

Regular, gentle cleaning every few weeks extends the lifespan.

That is correct to some extent, but I wonder if this 'gentle' method is really sufficient for stubborn dirt or dust buildup in the tracks.

Wouldn't it make sense to at least occasionally dismantle the tracks for thorough cleaning? This could help prevent wear that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Additionally, it should be considered that trapped particles in the track system can affect smooth operation. What are your thoughts?

I agree to some extent, but honestly: who really wants to crawl into the tracks and take them apart regularly for a mass-produced product like PAX?

Ikea sells delicate items, but here we act as if we’re dealing with high-end sliding doors!

I suspect the design is intended for occasional surface contact at most. I think the maintenance effort is often exaggerated here. Wiping them down once a month is enough.

All this hassle with disassembly seems more like a gimmick to me than something truly beneficial.

Thank you for the suggestion, I completely understand. The sliding tracks are indeed crucial for the smooth operation of the doors.

How involved is the cleaning process when you take the tracks apart? I don’t want to make it overly complicated, but if it really helps maintain value, I would be willing to do it every few months.

Does anyone have experience with the exact procedure for removing the tracks or the best intervals for doing so? Any information about potential damage caused by lack of maintenance or heavy dirt buildup would also be helpful.
