Hello everyone, I am planning to install my Ikea Pax sliding doors myself and have a few specific questions. I have already assembled the wardrobe frame, but the installation of the sliding doors is still unclear to me, especially regarding the correct alignment and fixing of the running rails. How do I install sliding doors on the Ikea Pax myself so that they move smoothly and without sticking? Are there any special tools, adjustment tips, or important points I should keep in mind to avoid mistakes? Thank you in advance for your help!

The top and bottom tracks must be properly hung and aligned. First, install the top track, then hang the doors, and finally secure the bottom track. Adjust using the included set screws until the doors move smoothly and evenly.

For precise installation of the Pax sliding doors, I recommend the following approach to avoid errors from the start:

- First, the Pax frame must be perfectly vertical, as any unevenness will affect the smooth running later on. Use a spirit level to ensure this.
- The upper track rails are fixed to the frame. Pay attention to the correct distance from the edge and ensure they are properly aligned parallel to the floor.
- The doors need to be hooked into the upper track with the rollers. It is important to set them vertically straight to prevent jamming or rubbing.
- The lower guide rail is installed last. It is advisable to attach it loosely at first and then find the correct position using adjustment screws after hanging the doors.

For tools, a Phillips screwdriver, a screwdriver for the adjustment screws, and a spirit level are sufficient. If you have trouble with the adjustment screws, a close look at the Ikea assembly instructions, which illustrate the process well, can be very helpful.

I am interested: could you provide the door dimensions (height, width) and the exact installation location? This also influences settings and potential adjustments.

For clarification: The Pax sliding doors first require precise alignment of the cabinet frame. Only an exact 90° angle during assembly ensures that the doors will later slide smoothly.

Furthermore:
- Secure the upper track carefully with screws, making sure it is positioned accurately
- Hang the doors by the rollers at the top
- Do not screw the lower guide rails too tightly; they serve for lateral guidance, while the rollers carry the weight

A tip: When installing the lower rail, use a square as a guide while screwing to ensure the guide is exactly parallel to the upper rails.

Thanks for the tip, Surela. The doors are each 236 cm (93 inches) high and 60 cm (24 inches) wide. I am installing the wardrobe in a fairly regular room with standard walls, no sloping ceilings. The floor is tiled. I’m unsure whether I can attach the guide rails directly to the tiles on the floor or if I need some sort of underlay to prevent slipping.

Usually, you can mount the lower guide rails directly onto tiles as long as the surface is even and clean. It is important to securely fasten the screws and ensure there are no loose gaps. If the floor is uneven, a small gasket or thin installation felt pads can be used to stabilize the rail and prevent warping.
