NesidaHello everyone, I am currently planning a new wardrobe solution from Ikea and have a specific question about the Pax series range: Are there Pax options at Ikea that come with both sliding doors and hinged doors?
My main concern is whether within the Pax range the modules and doors are designed so that you can flexibly combine or exchange sliding doors and hinged doors, or if these door types are generally sold separately in different sets or versions.
How exactly is the range structured at Ikea regarding these door types? Are there any special adjustments needed to fit hinged doors if you originally chose sliding doors?
I’m looking forward to your experiences and detailed information – also welcome are tips on assembly or any particular features or limitations depending on the type of door.

Regarding your question: The Ikea Pax series offers both sliding doors and hinged doors as two different door types. These are generally not compatible with each other on the same cabinet frame without special modifications.
This is because sliding doors run on tracks that need to be integrated into the cabinet carcasses, while hinged doors are attached with hinges. Both systems have their own frame sizes and mounting mechanisms.
Pax modules can be fitted with either type of door, but it is not designed as a mixed system; you choose either sliding doors or hinged doors. When switching door types, it usually requires replacing fittings and sometimes installing new tracks or hinges.

I can only agree with roryvin. I have had a Pax wardrobe with hinged doors and another with sliding doors myself, and they are definitely two completely different projects. By the way, hinged doors are easier to install, but sliding doors save space, which is a huge advantage in small rooms.
If you’re unsure which to choose, I highly recommend visiting an IKEA store to see the doors in person. That way, you can really understand how the door systems work.

In addition to the previous answers: There are no original Ikea Pax doors that combine hinged and sliding doors on a single cabinet at the same time. This is structurally challenging, and Ikea does not offer modular options in this regard.
If you still want a combination, you have to rely on creative solutions, such as custom-made modifications or third-party products. Official versions always have a fixed door design per cabinet.

For clarity:
- Pax sliding doors run on upper and lower tracks and require special mounting points.
- Hinged doors are attached to the side walls with hinges.
- Ikea sells both door types as separate complete sets.
When planning, you can choose one type, but there are no hybrid options or interchangeable combinations that work without additional modifications.
Switching door types later usually requires purchasing new hinge sets or track guides.

So, anyone considering changing the door type later on needs to take this into account from the very beginning of the planning process.
