klagiHello everyone, I recently purchased an Ikea Pax wardrobe with high-gloss fronts and am now facing the problem of how to clean these surfaces properly without leaving streaks or smudges. So far, I have tried using regular all-purpose cleaners and microfiber cloths, but the results have never looked truly clean—there are always streaks or marks left behind.
I am especially interested in which cleaning agents and cloths work best. Should I use special glass or plastic cleaners? Are household remedies like vinegar or dish soap recommended, or could they damage the high-gloss finish?
I would also like to know if a particular wiping technique, such as always wiping in one direction or circular motions, makes a difference.
I’m looking forward to your tips and experiences on how to clean the Ikea Pax high-gloss surfaces streak-free without damaging them.

Mild, water-based, and pH-neutral cleaning products work best. Microfiber cloths are ideal for dust-free cleaning because they leave minimal residue.
It is important to wipe the surfaces dry with a clean, dry cloth after cleaning to prevent streaks caused by water residues.
Home remedies such as vinegar should be avoided, as they can affect the coating.

I would like to go into more detail here, as cleaning high-gloss surfaces involves some specific considerations to achieve truly streak-free results.
First, it is important to clarify what material the high-gloss fronts of the Pax wardrobe are made of. Ikea usually uses an MDF board with an acrylic or polyester coating, which is very sensitive to harsh cleaners.
My recommended approach is as follows:
- Avoid chemical cleaners containing solvents (alcohol, ammonia, bleach). They can damage the surface and make it appear dull.
- Use lukewarm water, possibly with a few drops of pH-neutral dish soap added.
- Use two different clean, soft microfiber cloths: one for cleaning and the other dry for immediate polishing.
- Wipe in straight strokes, for example from top to bottom or left to right, rather than in circular motions. This technique reduces light reflections and visible streaks.
- For heavier dirt, you can also use a specialized furniture care cloth for high-gloss surfaces, which often contains additional cleaning and care agents.
I am also wondering whether you are dealing with specific types of dirt, such as fingerprints or grease films, as this can influence the choice of cleaner. What cleaning method have you already tried?

What cleaning products have you already tried?Thank you for the detailed response! Yes, mostly fingerprints and occasionally dust, sometimes also small spots of food residue (for example grease or splashes). So far, I have used regular glass cleaners and all-purpose cleaners, along with microfiber cloths. The problem with streaks kept appearing, especially after drying.
