pumaximHello everyone,
I am currently planning the installation of an IKEA METOD sliding door system in my new kitchen and am looking for helpful tips on how to install this modern system as space-saving and stable as possible. I am particularly interested in the challenges of adapting the door profiles to uneven walls or tight spaces.
Since I want to use the sliding doors mainly where traditional hinged doors take up too much space, I am wondering: What proven techniques or accessories do you recommend to make the doors look modern while ensuring perfect functionality?
Also, it would be interesting to learn how you deal with any clearance or minimum measurements in the track system, so the doors don’t warp or stick over time.
Thanks in advance for your input!

Hello pumaxim,
Good question! The METOD sliding door system is specially designed to work space-efficiently even in smaller kitchens while maintaining a clean appearance.
First, it is important to measure accurately and check the wall for evenness. If there are uneven spots, you can place small wooden shims or spacer plates behind the track to create a level base.
- Regarding stability, I recommend securely fixing the track in at least two precise points.
- Also, make sure to correctly insert the door rollers so that the doors can move smoothly at all times and do not get stuck.
Adjustment room can be created by slightly varying the screw positions – but the tolerances are tight, you are right. It’s best to mount everything temporarily first and then make fine adjustments before final fixing.
I hope this helps you move forward!

Hey pumaxim,
I’m glad you chose the METOD sliding door system – a smart choice to save space! 😎
I installed it about a year ago, and my tip is: never lose patience when adjusting the doors. At first, the tracks and rollers can feel a bit tricky, but trust me, once everything is properly aligned, the doors slide smoothly.
About the “modern” look: I went with matte door fronts, which gives a timeless and clean appearance to the entire kitchen.
And yes, uneven walls can be challenging, but with brackets and suitable spacers, you can easily compensate for that – though, as Ianlau suggests, you should check first with a spirit level.
Good luck!

Regarding stability, I recommend always securing the rail at least at two precise points. At this point, I would question whether two fixing points are truly sufficient. For longer sliding door systems, this can lead to sagging of the track, which over time negatively affects the door’s operation.
In practice, I recommend at least three mounting points, depending on the length of the rail—ideally where the material is strongest.
Regarding clearance, it is important to clearly define how much tolerance the suppliers officially specify and whether it might be better to plan for a larger margin in advance to avoid problems later on. A bit of experimentation is fine—but not at the expense of durability.
Hello everyone,
As a supplement to the existing thread, here are some well-founded tips:
- Make sure to check whether your tracks are straight or slightly curved. For curved walls, there are special flexible track systems available.
- In limited space conditions, flat door fronts and a slim track system are advantageous because they require less depth.
- When installing sliding doors, I recommend not mounting the doors completely flush with the kitchen front but planning a splash guard of a few millimeters. This keeps the door operation smooth and allows effective use of the space behind the doors without causing any jamming.
- In professional settings, we sometimes use additional adjustment plates to quickly compensate for unevenness.
This should help achieve a modern, space-saving result.

Simply test regularly whether the doors still slide smoothly and tighten any screws as needed.
You can compensate for unevenness with simple washers at the mounting points.
For space-saving installation: measure the frame distances accurately and plan carefully to ensure the doors don’t add too much thickness.
