I am planning to install an Ikea Metod kitchen cabinet with sliding doors in a very tight space and am facing some challenges. Specifically, I need advice on how to mount the cabinets optimally when there is very little side clearance available, while still allowing enough room for the sliding doors to open properly. Are there any special installation tips or alternative mounting methods that work better in this situation? Adjusting the sliding doors is also important to me, as there isn’t much room to move in tight spaces. Has anyone had experience with Metod cabinets plus sliding doors in small, confined areas and can explain in detail the best way to handle this?

Assemble the main body completely outside the confined space first. You should hang and adjust the sliding doors last, once the main body is stable. This way, you will have the best leverage for the adjustments.

The biggest challenge in tight spaces is the track system for sliding doors. It is important to install the track perfectly level and securely fixed to a solid base. This prevents later misalignments. Also, check the maximum load capacity: Ikea specifies a load limit for the sliding door modules that should not be exceeded. It is advisable to secure the cabinets to the wall using sturdy brackets to prevent tipping.

I totally understand! When working in tight spaces, planning is everything! 😊 It’s better to place the cabinet with a small gap from the wall – this way, you’ll have less hassle during assembly and can align the doors more easily. Once the doors are running smoothly, opening them becomes almost effortless. And don’t worry, a little extra space often makes more of a difference than you might think.

For adjusting doors in tight spaces: Ikea Metod sliding door systems feature adjustable tracks that allow for a tolerance of a few millimeters. I recommend the following: Follow the instructions carefully regarding the front clearances during installation and, if possible, have an assistant hold the door steady while making adjustments. If there is no extra space on the sides, you should check whether the door panels engage properly to avoid friction.

Tip: Install the sliding door frames first before hanging the doors. This gives you better control in tight spaces and makes alignment easier.
