MiritaHello everyone, I am planning to install Metod cabinets from Ikea with sliding doors in a rather small kitchen, aiming to save as much space as possible. I am especially interested in how to best design the cabinet structure so that the sliding doors operate smoothly and require minimal clearance. Does anyone have experience with the optimal installation of the tracks or tips for handling the doors in tight spaces? Also, how is the stability affected when multiple cabinets with sliding doors are placed side by side? I would appreciate any advice, especially regarding materials or additional solutions that have proven effective.

I can fully understand how challenging it is to find optimal solutions for small kitchens. I have noticed that sliding doors sometimes stick on the top track if the cabinets are not perfectly aligned. So, you need a lot of patience during installation. But once everything works smoothly, it’s very satisfying!
Regarding stability: It is crucial to properly connect and secure the Metod cabinets. The sliding door systems used should have at least two guide rails – one at the top and one at the bottom – to prevent misalignment. For multiple cabinets placed side by side, it is advisable to install a single guide rail along the entire length to ensure the doors operate smoothly and remain stable. I recommend aluminum profiles as the material, since they allow minimal play and provide high load capacity.
