Good evening everyone

I’m starting a small collection thread here for photos and progress updates on our second building project.
We’ve already moved to the Palatinate region to be closer to the construction site. Now we’re watching eagerly and happily as our (hopefully final) dream home takes shape near family.

One big challenge still ahead of us is the facade design. I really love the Nordic style with brickwork and mullioned windows. That won’t be possible here for two reasons: firstly, no one here can do bricklaying, and secondly, it would stand out too much. We will be going with a rendered facade. How to design the colors of the facade and windows to still create some country house / cottage charm is currently still a work in progress mentally.

Otherwise, I’m sharing our plans here and how it will eventually be built.
The support pillar marked near the kitchen island could be removed for a small extra cost, so that will be gone.

The room for “garden equipment” under the garage will get a partition wall for structural reasons.
It won’t be fully finished living space like in the house, but underfloor heating will be installed, along with a lockable door and a window. It’s meant to store garden tools but also some of the building services equipment, since the utility room (HAR) is quite small, and maybe be used as a party room.

We had three construction companies in the final selection. In the end, we chose the “doer” – a builder recommended to us here by friends and family. No website, no smartphone, but he is on site every day himself working in overalls. He has a very good reputation in this area and now rarely builds single-family homes. We were a bit lucky through personal connections and a very friendly initial phone call to get our foot in the door. So far we are very satisfied with this choice.

Two-story house with garage, window fronts and trees; northeast and southwest views.

Funny enough, all the houses on the opposite side of the street look exactly like that – white with a black roof. =)

Our house would probably have looked the same if it hadn’t been for a thread here that encouraged me, and a few towns away there was a house with a subtle green tone. We’ve based our choice on that, plus dark red brick paving. I’m really looking forward to seeing it in person in about a month.

A neighbor recently said she really liked our windows and would love to have ones like that herself. That was reassuring; at least there’s someone else who likes the window grids. =)
I also think it probably won’t be “traffic white.”

Can you choose any color? We have pigmented plaster, which apparently comes in different types. Unfortunately, the type recommended by the main contractor didn’t offer all the colors, or at least not all the ones I really wanted.

I believe so. The contract only says "color selectable," but my construction supervisor advised us to keep an eye out for render finishes we like and, if in doubt, to knock on the doors of nearby houses and ask what color they used. That sounds like "free choice" at first.

I will consider the color suggestions, at least some of them. 😉
What do you think about a pale reed green?

From the beyond of the forum, I received the suggestion to bring https://www.hausbau-forum.de/threads/grundriss-selbst-geplant-verwirklichtes-efh.41378/ into the color discussion. However, in that case, I would prefer a brighter front door.

That is really a great color. Our roof is black, though. For the front door, we had been thinking about iron mica. A countryside-style door would be very expensive, unfortunately, and we are too stingy for that.
Do you happen to know what color shade that is?

Interestingly, I saved that exact house from the thread on Pinterest under “Facade” — I already liked it back then.

Personally, I would find that too gray; I would prefer a slight beige undertone (a "greige") to make it feel less cold and concrete-like. However, it’s really difficult to recommend anything because it’s a matter of personal taste. What makes you feel more comfortable and what matches the rest (front door, garage door, fence, landscaping, paving...) is what counts. I know this isn’t very helpful.

*(I do think the house from the linked thread is very nice overall, and the floor plan is compact and simple, which I like! I prefer smaller houses.)
