Hello everyone, I recently decided to design my living and working room with IKEA Platsa furniture in a wood finish. Now I am wondering which colors would best complement this wood look to create a coherent and modern atmosphere. My main goal is to find a combination that is not only harmonious but also timeless and not too colorful. Which wall colors, decorative elements, or accent colors would you recommend that work well with the natural wood tone of Platsa? Are there any color schemes or combinations that you personally prefer or would rather avoid for this material? Looking forward to your experiences and ideas!

How do you generally handle wood-look finishes?

As a general rule, it is advisable to keep the wall colors neutral. This maintains flexibility to change the room’s atmosphere through decorations, cushions, curtains, or rugs. Strong wall colors can overwhelm the space, especially if the wood already has warm tones. Accents through textiles are more dynamic and easier to adjust.

I agree with that. Neutral-colored walls provide the best backdrop for wood finishes. Color in the decor adds life and is easier to change.

Alternatively, you can emphasize a single wall with a stronger color to create highlights, while keeping the rest more subdued.

I love keeping the walls neutral and then adding colorful cushions and plants for great highlights. This way, you can change things up from time to time without needing to repaint!

It is also important that the lighting is well matched to the colors. Warm light enhances warm earth tones, while cool light highlights greys and blues more effectively.
