WaveRebel25 Oct 2015 17:50We are building with a general contractor and are currently selecting the specifications for the windows and doors.
Regarding the front door, our building specification includes the following:
The entrance door system will be a single-leaf door made of white PVC profiles, matching the windows, with a rebate seal, triple locking mechanism, HEWI handle, security lock, and door panel – material cost €2,000, gross manufacturer price, installed.
We have budgeted a bit more to have the exterior of the front door colored and possibly to choose aluminum instead of PVC.
So far, we have received prices for five selected PVC doors, while we are still waiting for the prices of the three requested aluminum doors. The prices range from €3,766 to €4,348, with an average just over €4,000 gross, including installation and after deducting the contractually agreed amount. Of course, the contractor still needs to deduct the installation costs, as these are charged to our general contractor. Nevertheless, the offer seems quite high to me. What do you think?
What is a reasonable price for a PVC door without any major special features?
I’m already dreading the prices for the aluminum doors.

For us—with a side panel, total width 2.01 meters (6.6 feet)—the budget included €4,000 for General Contractor 1 and €5,000 for General Contractor 2.
If we choose aluminum, we can stay within the €5,000 budget by skipping the automatic lock (Bayerwald).
Our desired wooden door costs €8,200. We are still considering whether it’s worth it to us.
And yes, I was shocked by the prices as well.
By the way, Toom currently has an exterior door on offer for €279.

Sebastian7926 Oct 2015 16:53Wood seems really expensive – I would have expected that for aluminum instead.
On the other hand, you can customize it more individually – our door costs 7,000 euros with an automatic lock, 5-point locking system, 3.10m (10.2 ft) width (two glass panels on the left/right and three glass panels in the door), 2.50m (8.2 ft) height, and two-tone finish (white inside, RAL 7012 outside), including a 2m (6.6 ft) bar handle and low threshold, including installation.
I would definitely recommend visiting the local carpenter.

Feel free to explore options in that category. For very little money, it can look like the attached example. Oak door in anthracite, side panel with triple glazing.
