ᐅ Floor-to-ceiling windows that open outward, providing more usable interior space

Hello dear forum members,

On the ground floor, I mostly have floor-to-ceiling windows, and partly there are things placed in front or just a small space (still in the planning stage). Outward opening could help here.

Is this done or not? Is it possibly not allowed?
Why not? Brilliant? Crazy idea? Unusual but feasible? Old hat?

Best regards

Yes, let’s see what my father-in-law says about it.
Having it fixed at the bottom wouldn’t help me. The point is that I want to be able to step outside there sometimes.
That’s also why the shading isn’t an issue, since the venetian blind has to be raised anyway when I want to go outside...

We have windows from the Swedish company Elitfönster (dot se). Their website is partially available in English.

For me, the company is already decided. However, feel free to share other recommendations; perhaps others will benefit from them here.

No, the klongpadong always gets in the way when you lower it (which I personally didn’t want to do manually only).

Then install hinged doors.

@11ant
I think we are talking past each other, or I don’t understand you. Opening only the upper part is not the solution to my problem. When I open it, I want to step outside, and I don’t necessarily want to rearrange things. So, it’s not about ventilation for me.

I assume that the sofa is placed as shown in the worst-case scenario: in that case, dividing the upper part into two sections will help you swing the opening panel over the backrest of the sofa. However, to step outside, you will need to move the sofa and also be able to open the lower element (i.e., a swing door). This is offered as an alternative to an inward-opening door, to avoid any interference between the external venetian blind and the patio door. I only recommend an outward-opening door if you plan to install an awning instead of an external venetian blind.
