ᐅ Kallax shelf unit no longer stable after rearranging sofa – why?

I recently rearranged my Kallax shelf after moving the sofa from its previous position. Now it’s clear that the shelf isn’t as stable as before. It wobbles a bit and seems like it’s no longer properly aligned or secured.
Does anyone know why changing the furniture layout nearby might affect the stability of the Kallax? Could there be certain forces or support that were previously absorbed and are now missing? I haven’t added any extra weight, just changed its position.
I would appreciate any technical explanations or tips on how to fix this issue.

Do not place the shelf freely in the room; instead, position it against a wall or furniture. This is very important because the Kallax is not designed to stand freely – although the back panel provides some stability, without side support the shelf can warp or become unstable.
To add: if you want to place the shelf freely, you can use brackets to secure it to the wall. Alternatively, placing a heavier weight inside the shelf can improve its stability.
One more thought: could the flooring under the shelf have changed due to the sofa, for example, from dirt or moisture buildup that might cause uneven support?

Could the flooring have changed due to the sofa, for example from a layer of dirt or moisture under the shelf?I hadn’t actually considered that. The sofa was placed directly against the wall and on carpets that I laid underneath. The Kallax shelf was standing on laminate flooring.
After rearranging, the shelf is now free-standing and no longer on carpet, but directly on the laminate. So it’s possible that it slides more easily on the laminate or doesn’t stand as firmly.
How can I best protect the laminate while also increasing stability? Would a non-slip mat under the feet of the shelf be advisable?

When moving the shelf, simply remove the pads and then stick them back on afterward, otherwise the spots might bulge. And, well, despite all these tips: sometimes a good, not too hard furniture wedge that fits between the shelf and the floor is enough – super simple and effective. 😉

Soft rubber wedges or coarse felt pads work best.
Also, always ensure the shelf is perfectly vertical. A spirit level is your best friend here.
One more thing: If your Kallax consists of multiple units, check the connectors – moving it around might have loosened a weak spot.
On uneven floors, small adjustable feet can be installed. The same feet are also available as replacement parts for Kallax. This allows you to perfectly level and stabilize the shelf.
Additionally, back panels can be secured with screws if they are only slotted in. This makes the shelf significantly more stable.
