Aphrodithe7 Apr 2020 11:40Hello everyone,
We urgently need sun protection for our patio door. We are considering a fabric screen from the company Roma. The advantage is that it still lets light into the room and we don’t have to look at slats. We have now received an initial quote and were a bit surprised. The door is 375cm (148 inches) wide and 260cm (102 inches) high, with a sliding element.
We would like it to be divided into two sections.
The first company wants 3000€ for this, and it would be operated with a manual crank, so without a motor. Now we are wondering if the price is realistic or if it is more of a deterrent offer, or whether we should rather consider a venetian blind (also called a louvered blind or shutter).
Because 3000€ for one door seems a bit excessive to us!
Saludos Miguel

That would be way too expensive for me as well, but the job is also very small. Who has time for this nowadays?
You can forget about manually operated Venetian blinds with a crank; it takes forever to roll them all the way up. Electric is the way to go, or not at all. Is there electricity available?

Screens are the most expensive option you can choose. The fabric can also cause significant price differences. Including travel and other costs, I don’t find it excessively expensive. For a single window, the one-time costs have a big impact. We will use screens to provide shading for everything. However, it is a more specialized system.

We will shade everything with screens. However, it’s a more specialized system. Wow, 3000 for a sliding door seems quite expensive to me. We only need shading for that one door. We were already expecting around 2000€. Maybe blinds like venetian blinds would be better—how do their prices compare?
Which system are you installing?
I didn’t say it was cheap. Just not completely unreasonable. For such a small job, it has to be worth driving out there.
Venetian blinds are somewhat cheaper. There are also significant differences here. Do you want cable-guided or track-guided shading? What other shading do you have? Can you possibly extend the order there to include this door?
We install a frameless all-glass system from Swissfineline with corresponding vertical blinds. These come from Stobag.

What other shading solutions do you use? Can you not extend the order there for this door? For all the other windows, exterior roller shutters have been installed. We did not expect to need shading for the door since it is covered by an overhang. Now we have realized that it won’t work without shading and have to come up with a solution afterward. If necessary, we will have to bite the bullet.
