Hello everyone!

We are currently finalizing our choice of external blinds. Yesterday, we visited our external blinds specialist again, and now we’re not so sure if the selection (currently proposed by our architect) is the right one.

As of now, Warema products with Z-shaped slats are planned to be installed. However, after looking at the samples again yesterday, we have to say that we don’t really like the appearance. The “simple” edge-rolled slats somehow look more attractive to us.

Our main goal is to have sun protection, and when needed, privacy from outside. Darkening—which according to Warema is the main purpose of the Z-shaped slats—is not our top priority.

What did you choose and why? Does anyone have photos of an interior room with Z-shaped slats or with the edge-rolled slats installed?

So many questions!
We would appreciate any tips!

Best regards,
Wickie

Hi Wickie,

if you don’t need complete blackout, the standard 80mm (3-inch) slat is sufficient.

There is a daylight position that provides privacy while allowing light to enter through the upper slats. This option is a bit more expensive.

Don’t forget the wind sensor!

We are getting Zipscreens from Warema, which provide shading and privacy and are less sensitive to wind.

Hi Matthias!

Exactly, we are also thinking right now that standard slats might actually be sufficient in some cases.

Are you referring to the ProVisio slats from Warema when you mention the daylight position? That sounds quite suitable for our needs as well.

It's also an interesting question how the noise level differs between the various slats. Is the Z model quieter because it is more torsion-resistant?! Unfortunately, Warema doesn’t seem to offer very good advice. Even the field sales representative couldn’t really answer many of our questions (or maybe didn’t want to, or we might be too “special” – which I hope is not the case).

Of course, a wind sensor is mandatory!

Which control system have you planned? We are possibly shifting from the Wisotronic to the Climatronic system. Wisotronic does not appear to offer many individual options. And the Climatronic is probably over-performing for our needs.
A pity, actually.

@Wickie

External venetian blinds are always noisy in the wind!

I don’t know the exact term for the daylight position, but it’s a useful feature and essential for workspaces.

We won’t have a central control; each blind will have its own switch.

Of course, there is always some noise. The question is just whether some are quieter than others...

Houses in the neighborhood also have louvered shutters. I think I’ll just ring their doorbell and ask what was installed there. At least they look stylish!

S-shaped chamfers because they look nicer and allow more light into the room despite sun protection
