Hello,

we are currently planning our outdoor area.
We are still unsure about the best way to create privacy screening towards the neighbor’s house. We have quite a curious neighbor who always stands on their terrace whenever we are outside.
Of course, the adjacent playground should remain accessible for our child.

We find it a bit difficult to decide the best solution. At first, we thought about bamboo plants. They grow quickly and tall. But do they grow dense enough to provide privacy screening?

Or should we go for a wooden fence?
It’s tricky.
Maybe you have suggestions and ideas for us, thank you very much.
Best regards

Thank you very much for your replies. I will go over this with my husband, and we will see which option makes the most sense. If we work with wood, we will have privacy quickly. Plants need time to grow, but a natural privacy screen is definitely a nicer option. We need to think this through more carefully.

What are the disadvantages of a WPC wall?

Wood with greenery in front. Then, in a few years, you won’t see any difference.

You don’t feel comfortable knowing that someone is just watching without doing anything. They have the pleasure for 90 minutes, 5 days a week. A man drives his wife to clean and stares straight ahead at our property, our terrace, our dining table for 90 minutes. My personal hell. The hedge in front of his parking space gets extra fertilizer.

I would also choose tall, fast-growing perennial plants. They don’t look as uninviting... but on the outer side of the terrace, install a wooden wall.

If you prefer a hedge: beech hedges lose their withered brown leaves slowly in winter, thus continuing to provide privacy.

I would enthusiastically wave back loudly every time he looks, so often that he might eventually decide to ignore me. Alternatively, I’d stare back with obvious interest. But the idea that I would build a privacy screen because his mom missed something in teaching him manners? That just wouldn’t be right, not in my life.

Whether a wooden wall is allowed at your property boundary depends on local regulations, so you should check with the relevant authorities. Here, a structure up to 1.8 meters (6 feet) high would be permitted, but the neighbor must agree to it. Whether they will approve it is another question.
