Hello everyone, I am planning to refurbish our guest room and am currently looking at the Ikea PAX wardrobes. I am particularly interested in which models from the PAX series work best for a guest room where we need storage space for clothes and blankets, but at the same time, the wardrobe should not be too imposing and should keep the room feeling as open as possible. Does anyone have experience with different PAX variants in such rooms? Which dimensions, interior fittings, or doors work well if the room is to be used occasionally for multiple purposes?

If you like darker colors, I recommend pairing them with light walls or sufficient lighting; otherwise, the room can quickly feel cramped.I can confirm this from my own experience. We initially had a dark wardrobe in the guest room, which made the space feel much smaller. After remodeling with light-colored Pax fronts, the atmosphere is much more open and relaxed. Especially when having guests, it feels much more comfortable this way.
If you are looking for something neutral, the PAX models with white lacquer fronts are a very good choice. They fit almost anywhere and can be easily complemented with colors in the interior design. I also recommend keeping the inside of the wardrobe light to create a sense of order and brightness. Between the doors and shelves, you can add accents with color-coordinated baskets or boxes that offer both decoration and functionality.
Thanks again to everyone for the many valuable contributions! One last question from my side regarding the size: I am torn between a PAX unit with a width of 100 cm (40 inches) or 150 cm (60 inches) for the guest room. It should provide storage space for bedding, clothing, and some luggage, but also leave enough room for a guest bed. What are your experiences with these widths when used in a guest room? Would you prefer a narrower unit combined with a separate wardrobe, or rather a larger overall PAX unit?

Sinan-meo21 Nov 2020 10:22The size depends heavily on the room, but generally, I would recommend a width of no more than 100 to 120 cm (40 to 47 inches) if the guest room is also meant to serve as a sleeping area. Larger sizes can quickly make the room feel smaller and crowd the bed. If you need more storage space, a combination of PAX and a separate sideboard or drawer unit for the remaining items might be a practical solution to stay flexible.

I would prefer the 100 cm (40 inches) option and maximize storage with well-organized baskets and shelving units. This way, the room remains versatile and cozy.
