Hello everyone, I would like to know how to make the best use of the Ikea PAX system in apartments with very limited space. In my small two-room apartment, every square centimeter (inch) counts. I’m particularly interested in practical tips for space planning, the best combination of wardrobe elements, the use of interior fittings like drawers, hanging rails, or shelves, as well as clever solutions to maximize storage without making the room feel cramped. Are there any experiences on how to flexibly adapt PAX and which tricks to watch out for during installation, especially when there is little floor space and possibly a sloped ceiling? Thanks in advance for your ideas!

I recommend choosing tall cabinets with plenty of internal fittings when space is limited. Use drawers for smaller clothing items and take advantage of the option to install multiple clothes rails in one cabinet.

Hello Marko38, your concern is very practical. For small apartments, I usually recommend customizing the PAX system to make the most of every niche. It is important to maximize the height, ideally planning all the way up to the ceiling. Inside, you can organize with various inserts such as pull-outs, baskets, and drawers. Another tip is to choose narrow wardrobes that can be arranged flexibly to avoid blocking tight spots in the apartment. If you have a sloping ceiling, there are also special PAX elements that can be individually adjusted. Additionally, you can supplement open compartments with boxes that are easy to remove – this helps avoid the typical "cramped feeling" in small spaces.

In small apartments, narrow PAX wardrobes and numerous drawers are worthwhile. This way, you can make vertical use of the storage space, and everything remains easily accessible.

I consider this very important. The issue of sloped ceilings is often underestimated. PAX offers adjustable cabinet depths and the option to shorten the carcass – this allows modules to be perfectly fitted into angled spaces. Additionally, installing interior lighting is worthwhile to maintain visibility even in narrow or dark corners.

Another tip: use the cabinet sides for small hooks or organizers. This way, you gain extra storage on otherwise unused surfaces without requiring additional space.

For tight spaces, it makes sense to choose cabinets with a shallower depth, preferably 35 cm (14 inches) instead of 60 cm (24 inches), so the room doesn’t feel crowded. I also recommend using sliding doors if there isn’t enough space to open regular doors.
