Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to buy new wardrobes for a shared apartment in a larger city and have been looking into the Ikea PAX systems. My question to the community is: which of the many Ikea PAX variants do you think are especially suitable for shared apartments? Important aspects are flexible use, storage space for individual needs, easy assembly, and adaptability to different room sizes.

Are there models that work particularly well for dividing storage space per person, or ones that can be easily modified if the shared apartment changes? I look forward to your experiences and recommendations!

For shared apartments, the PAX doors with mirrors are very practical, as they also serve as full-length room mirrors. Additionally, I recommend the 50 cm (20 inch) depth, which fits better in smaller rooms. Choose width and height according to the available space.

I would recommend the classic 100cm (40 inches) wide PAX carcasses. They provide enough storage space without being too bulky or too small. For shared apartments, I find the interior fittings with adjustable shelves and drawers ideal.

I find that the combination of a wardrobe with sliding doors and a height of 236 cm (7 ft 9 in) is perfect when space is limited. Sliding doors take up less floor space, and you can mix different colors to give each resident their own area.

That’s an interesting point, especially the combination of different doors as room dividers would be important for us.

Do you have recommendations on the best way to divide the interior space for different users? Are there best practices for variable compartmentalization per person in a PAX wardrobe system?

For shared apartments, modular divisions of the interior elements have proven to be the most practical.

– Depths of 58 cm (23 inches) provide more storage space, but 35 cm (14 inches) can fit better in smaller rooms.
– A cabinet with adjustable shelves and multiple drawers supports various needs.
– I also recommend clothes rails that can be installed fixed or height-adjustable to accommodate different types of clothing efficiently.
