Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to redesign my bedroom wardrobe and am considering getting an Ikea PAX wardrobe system. My specific question is: Is the Ikea PAX wardrobe well suited for the bedroom in terms of storage capacity, customization options, and durability?

I have heard that the system is very flexible, but how does it perform in a relatively small bedroom, for example? Additionally, I am interested in whether the assembly is more complicated compared to other furniture and how stable the wardrobe remains after long-term use.

I would appreciate it if you could share your experiences or any specific recommendations!

The PAX wardrobe is very flexible due to its modular construction. For small rooms, the narrow widths are especially suitable. Assembly is possible with the instructions but takes some time.

Hello Egonpi,

to answer your question more precisely: The Ikea PAX system is indeed very suitable for the bedroom, especially because it can be customized individually. The interior fittings can be adapted well to your needs with drawers, clothes rails, or shelves. In smaller rooms, it is particularly advisable to choose sliding doors, as they take up less space.

Regarding stability: The quality is fully sufficient for normal private use, but if it is heavily loaded, reinforcements could possibly be added.

Assembly usually takes a bit of time for beginners, but with the instructions it is manageable. It is best to allow plenty of time and possibly have a second person to help.

I hope this helps you!

As an addition: The PAX wardrobe is indeed highly customizable due to its modular design and is suitable for a wide range of room layouts. The maximum dimensions of individual sections are usually 236 cm (93 inches) in height and 100 cm (39 inches) in width per module, allowing for flexible configurations.

The materials used are generally medium-density fiberboard (MDF) with a melamine coating, providing a balanced combination of stability and weight.

For small bedrooms, the option of sliding doors is especially recommended to save space. Regarding durability, it should be noted that the wardrobe may show gradual signs of wear with frequent moves or heavy use—this is common for furniture in this price range.

I would like to elaborate further on the discussion about the Ikea PAX wardrobe system for the bedroom, as I have several years of experience with it.

The PAX wardrobe is a versatile system with numerous configuration options. It is important to pay attention to the following aspects during planning:

- Measure the room height: The maximum height for PAX units is usually 236 cm (7 ft 9 in), but there are base variants that are rarely taller.
- Plan the interior carefully: Whether clothes rails, drawers, baskets, or shelves—the combination significantly affects how efficiently the storage space is utilized.
- Sliding doors vs. hinged doors: Sliding doors save space but are somewhat more complex to install and require very precise adjustment.
- Stability: The wardrobe is sturdy enough for conventional amounts of clothing; however, overloading can cause the shelves to bend. Additional support beams can help here.
- Assembly: Building the wardrobe takes time, tools, and preferably two people. Some small screws and guide rails can be a bit fiddly.

Can you specify your room dimensions or the desired wardrobe type in more detail? Then I can provide more specific advice.

That’s exactly how I approach it as well. With two people, it goes faster and is safer.
