Hello everyone, I am planning to refurbish our guest room and am currently looking at the Ikea PAX wardrobes. I am particularly interested in which models from the PAX series work best for a guest room where we need storage space for clothes and blankets, but at the same time, the wardrobe should not be too imposing and should keep the room feeling as open as possible. Does anyone have experience with different PAX variants in such rooms? Which dimensions, interior fittings, or doors work well if the room is to be used occasionally for multiple purposes?

I would recommend a smaller PAX wardrobe, 75 cm (30 inches) wide, with sliding doors. This saves space and looks neat.

For planning, I recommend first measuring the available space accurately. PAX units come in several depths: 35 cm (14 inches), 58 cm (23 inches), or 66 cm (26 inches). For a guest room that shouldn’t feel cramped, the 35 cm (14 inches) depth is often sufficient, especially if you don’t need to store many bulky clothes. Inside, you can easily customize with shelves and hanging rails. Sliding doors are ideal for tight spaces, while regular hinged doors require more room. Tip: mirror doors reflect light and can make the space feel larger.

Really interesting question! I love the PAX series and have a wardrobe with mirrored doors in the guest room myself. It immediately makes the space much brighter and more welcoming. The combination of drawers and a hanging rail works perfectly for us, so guests can neatly store everything. 😊

If space is tight, use a 50cm (20 inches) deep PAX wardrobe with sliding doors. They save space and are practical.

I understand that you don’t want to overcrowd the room. I felt the same way. In the end, we chose a 100 cm (40 inch) wide PAX system with partly open shelves so that the wardrobe doesn’t appear too bulky and guests can easily access towels and blankets. This way, the room feels open and welcoming, even though the wardrobe is quite large. Maybe this can serve as inspiration for you.
