Hello everyone, I am currently planning the setup of a new bedroom and considering using IKEA Pax wardrobes, as I have read that they are very flexible. My question is a bit more specific: Which IKEA Pax wardrobes are particularly versatile when it comes to individual customization, for example regarding different interior layouts, variable doors, and modular expansion options? It would be helpful if you could also share practical experiences or example configurations that demonstrate the best ways to adapt a Pax wardrobe to different room situations or usage requirements. Thanks in advance for your input!
I remain skeptical about the long-term durability when frequent modifications are involved. Of course, professional installation can hold up, but I would like to see concrete long-term studies or at least experience reports from people who have regularly remodeled their cabinet over the years. It would also be interesting to know how IKEA handles warranties or complaints if problems do occur.
For clarification: IKEA offers a 10-year warranty on the main components of the Pax system, indicating a durable construction. The manufacturer’s load tests and quality assurances are extensively documented. Practical long-term experience largely aligns with these specifications. Regarding frequent modifications, the parts should be handled carefully and the assembly components inspected—wear parts such as clips may weaken with very frequent disassembly and reassembly but are relatively easy to replace.
Many thanks to everyone for the detailed answers and tips! For me, it comes down to a Pax wardrobe with a depth of 35 cm (14 inches), sliding doors, and a mix of shelves and drawers being probably the most flexible solution – especially if I might want to expand the use of the wardrobe later on, for example, as a guest room or for storage of various items. I will study the IKEA planning software more thoroughly and take your advice regarding assembly and accessories into account.
One more addition: When planning, be sure to pay attention to the maximum height of 236 cm (93 inches). For rooms with lower ceilings, there are also options with a height of 201 cm (79 inches); these are also flexible but offer less storage space. Ultimately, the PAX system is very well suited for a wide range of room situations. A small tip: combinations with shelves and drawers instead of just clothes rails significantly increase everyday flexibility.
