Hello everyone,

I recently purchased the Ikea Brimnes chest of drawers with four drawers. Since I want to store quite a bit of small items in it, I’m looking for efficient ways to organize the storage space inside the drawers. I’m especially interested in which systems or accessories you use to divide the space, how to make the most space-efficient use of the drawers, and if there are any tips tailored specifically to the dimensions and material of the Brimnes drawers.

It would also be helpful if you could address different use cases, such as whether clothing, office supplies, or household items can be stored particularly well in them.

How do you best organize the storage space in Ikea Brimnes drawers without it becoming messy or disorganized quickly? I look forward to your experiences and suggestions!

Hi kaubar, great topic! 😊 I have a Brimnes dresser myself, and the best thing is to use small boxes and dividers. You can, for example, cut simple plastic boxes to size or use IKEA’s own organization boxes. This really helps keep things neat and makes it easy to stay organized!

Especially for small items, these small inserts are invaluable – nothing gets tossed around anymore. I also often store things out of sight that I used to have to search for all the time. Highly recommended from me!

Hello kaubar, I would recommend using divider boxes or drawer inserts made of plastic. They fit well in Brimnes drawers. For clothing, folding is better than rolling. Use small containers for small items.

Hello kaubar,

to optimize storage space in Ikea Brimnes drawers, I recommend a systematic approach:

- Measure: The internal dimensions of the drawers are crucial for selecting the right inserts.
- Material choice: Plastic is a durable and easy-to-clean material for divider elements.
- Modularity: Modular, connectable organizer boxes allow flexible adjustments to changing needs.
- Categorization: First, you should sort your contents (office, clothing, household). Create separate sections for each category.

It is also important not to overfill the drawers, as this affects their functionality. Additionally, drawer dividers made of wood or cardboard can be custom-made if you prefer an individual system.

I’m curious—which main categories do you currently want to store in the drawers?

Hello Surela, thanks for your detailed analysis. The main categories are actually quite diverse. I use one drawer mainly for socks and underwear, a second for stationery and papers (a mix of office and craft supplies), then one for electronic accessories like charging cables, power banks, small devices, and in the last drawer I keep cosmetics and personal care items.

I want to avoid situations where, for example, cables fall out when pulling the drawer or socks get mixed up. So dividers are practically essential. A system that’s easy to clean is also important since care products can occasionally spill.

Are there specific drawer inserts that work particularly well with the Brimnes drawers? And how do you keep track of mixed contents like in the office area?

Hey kaubar, that sounds like an exciting challenge! I’m very familiar with the problem of tangled cables and mixed-up items—it can be quite stressful.

What helped me was not just relying on boxes but also using small bags or fabric pouches, especially for cosmetics. This way, you can quickly swap out or clean individual sections. For electronics, it’s useful to use cable reels or cable ties upfront, so everything doesn’t end up tangled in the drawer.

Don’t get discouraged if it feels a bit complicated at first—organization is a process. How do you manage areas where you frequently change or pack new items?
