Hello everyone, I am currently planning to better organize my kitchen cabinet system from Ikea Metod with drawers in order to make optimal use of the storage space. Since the drawers are quite deep and wide, I am wondering: How can I best optimize the available space in the Ikea Metod drawers to neatly store both small and larger items without everything getting mixed up? I am looking for practical tips such as dividers, modular inserts, or possibly stacking tricks that work particularly well with this type of drawer. Any experiences with special inserts or custom-made box dividers would also be very helpful. Thanks in advance for your ideas!

Hey mustafa30, great question! I think the Metod drawers are fantastic, but things can quickly get messy if you don’t use smart organizers. My tip: go for modular inserts, which Ikea offers in various sizes, so you can create custom compartments for cutlery, kitchen tools, and more. Important: use height and width efficiently! You can also use stackable boxes to make better vertical use of the space. Don’t get discouraged—having everything within easy reach is really enjoyable with the right organization!

Plastic inserts fit well, are easy to clean, and flexible. Usually, 2-3 dividers are enough to prevent clutter. Organize the larger drawers into zones: cutlery, pots, dishes, small items.

I often wonder if all the effort with these inserts is really necessary. Sure, they look good, but true professionals simply organize based on importance and frequency of use. Everything else is a luxury. Especially with Ikea Metod: who wants to overload their drawers with dividers only to end up grabbing everything by feel anyway? Maybe it makes more sense to put less in the drawers and reorganize more often?

That’s an interesting point. For me, it’s really a fine balance between maintaining order with dividers and practical everyday use. Especially with the Ikea Metod drawers, which are quite large in volume, I believe having some sort of organizational system is necessary so you don’t have to search for a long time in daily life. Of course, packing less is an option, but I want to maximize storage space, especially considering the size of the drawers.

For Metod drawers, especially the deeper models, it is worthwhile to use insert systems with multiple levels. This way, you can store larger items at the bottom and smaller items in removable boxes above. Alternatively, you can organize utensils by function in boxes that can be taken out individually.
