Hello everyone, I am currently planning the setup of a new bedroom and considering using IKEA Pax wardrobes, as I have read that they are very flexible. My question is a bit more specific: Which IKEA Pax wardrobes are particularly versatile when it comes to individual customization, for example regarding different interior layouts, variable doors, and modular expansion options? It would be helpful if you could also share practical experiences or example configurations that demonstrate the best ways to adapt a Pax wardrobe to different room situations or usage requirements. Thanks in advance for your input!

I’m interested to know if anyone has experience that proves the variable interior fittings really withstand everyday use – especially when the cabinet is frequently reconfigured.Thank you for raising this point, as it is actually something I’m not entirely sure about. I expect the cabinet to remain stable even if I, for example, move drawers and shelves multiple times or change the interior layout, such as switching from clothing to accessories. Does anyone have practical experience on whether frequent reconfiguration leads to damage or if everything remains securely assembled and durable?
Regarding reconfiguration: The Pax systems are specifically designed for modularity and include standardized hanging fixtures. According to tests available to me, there are no structural issues even after multiple rebuilds, provided the assembly instructions are followed precisely. It is important to use only the designated slot positions for shelves and clothes rails, as the drill holes are accurately pre-set in the carcass. A secure wall attachment is essential.

Does anyone have practical experience on whether frequent modifications cause damage, or if everything remains securely installed? From my own experience: I have rebuilt my Pax wardrobe at least four times over the past three years, including changing open compartments into more drawers. No damage or loose parts. The mechanism is very well designed. As mentioned, you should follow the intended clips and screws and avoid using excessive force during modifications.
For small rooms, I believe a depth of 35cm (14 inches) is one of the most versatile options. It fits everywhere without appearing too bulky. Sliding doors are almost a must here since standard doors often don’t leave enough space. I recommend a height of 236cm (93 inches), as the interior fittings can then be easily adjusted according to needs, including compartments or even technical installations.
One more tip: It’s worth paying attention not only to the fronts and internal dimensions but also to the door running system and hardware. Sliding doors with a soft-close feature, in particular, greatly enhance user comfort. For highly flexible solutions, some third-party accessories offering specialized storage options or interior lighting are also recommended. This can further increase flexibility.
