Are there any Ikea Pax wardrobe models or variants that are specifically offered with a particularly shallow depth?

I am looking for a wardrobe with the smallest possible depth, as my available space is quite limited, especially in terms of depth. The standard Pax models are usually around 58 cm (23 inches) deep, which is a bit too much for me. It would be important to know if there are officially offered variations with a reduced depth (e.g., around 35 cm (14 inches) or 40 cm (16 inches)), or if there are modification options or accessories (such as special interior fittings or alternative carcass sizes) that can be used to effectively reduce the depth.

I would be very grateful for shared experiences or tips on this topic!

Additionally, I would suggest that if you definitely want to install a Pax wardrobe, you might want to consider modular interior organizers.

For example, there are Pax interior fittings that include rolling containers, drawers, and shelves. Altogether, this can help optimize storage space if the wardrobe is too deep.

However, for hanging clothes in shallow wardrobes, it becomes challenging without making compromises.

Sometimes using narrower wardrobe dimensions (e.g., 50 cm (20 inches) depth but less width) can help – but these are not standard Pax depth models.

Have you already tried using the IKEA furniture planner on site? It sometimes offers less well-known combination options.

Yes, I have used the furniture planner, but so far without satisfactory results for shallow depths. The maximum available depth of about 40 cm (16 inches) does not seem to be covered by Pax.

Thanks for the tip about interior organizers—I will take a closer look at those. I was hoping to make only minimal changes to a standard Pax cabinet, but I may really need to consider alternative systems.

From my experience, the depth of Pax units is quite fixed due to their construction.

Shallower wardrobes are mainly available for storage without hanging rails, for example, 35 cm (14 inches) carcasses for shelves or drawers.

Working with those to store hanging clothes can be problematic.

As a solution, if you really want Pax units, you could consider adjusting the interior elements accordingly (e.g., shorter hanging rods), but this carries the risk of reduced functionality.

If hanging clothes are a priority, it might be worth looking into other furniture series that offer shallower depths.

For clarification:

A depth of about 58 cm (23 inches) is standard for the typical Pax carcasses. This depth is based on technical requirements for hangers, which usually need approximately 40–45 cm (16–18 inches) in width, plus space for doors and internal components.

The 35 cm (14 inches) deep carcass is typically used as a shelf or storage solution for folded clothes and is not designed as a hanging wardrobe.

There is no official version with a depth of 40 cm (16 inches).

Modifications to the standard dimensions are not recommended, as they may affect the warranty and structural stability.

Conclusion: For shallow wardrobes with hanging storage, Pax is not suitable. Alternative furniture options or walk-in solutions should be considered.

Brief summary:

- Pax wardrobes have a depth of 58 cm (23 inches).
- 35 cm (14 inches) carcasses are only for shelves.
- There are no shallower models with hanging functionality.

For shallower wardrobes, it is better to consider other furniture.

My available depth is about 40 to a maximum of 42 cm (16 to 17 inches); unfortunately, more space is not possible.

That’s really tight for hangers, as they generally require about 40–45 cm (16–18 inches).

In theory, you could try hanging hangers sideways or install flexible rods to work around this issue. However, this extra effort is not supported by Pax and would require more personal initiative.

On the other hand, some other manufacturers offer shallower wardrobes with hanging rods specifically designed for smaller depths.

If you are considering Ikea, I would recommend their open systems with wall mounting instead, which are less deep and allow you to install hanging rods individually.

It is important to check how stable the wall is and whether it can support the weight of hanging clothes.
