Plokatrin9 Apr 2021 19:12Hello everyone, I am currently planning a new wardrobe and considering purchasing an Ikea Pax wardrobe. My question is: Which Ikea Pax wardrobe combinations are especially practical, particularly if you value flexible storage and a highly customizable interior? I have a room about 2.5 m (8 ft) wide and 2.3 m (7.5 ft) high available. It is important for me to have a combination that works well for different types of clothing (from hanging shirts to folded sweaters), and also allows for good storage of shoes and accessories. Does anyone have experience or specific recommendations regarding size, interior layout, or door types? Thanks in advance for your answers!
Hello Plokatrin, to best meet your requirements, I recommend a combination of at least two 50cm (20 inches) wide Pax frames. Ideally, the height should be 236cm (93 inches), as using the full room height allows for more storage space. The interior fittings should at least include:
- Clothes rails at different heights (one higher for long garments, one lower for shirts and blouses)
- Drawers for folded clothes
- Compartments for shoes (for example, with suitable shelves or shoe boxes)
- Accessories such as drawer inserts or hooks for accessories
Regarding the doors, sliding doors save space, but the interior layout is less flexible since you cannot access both parts at the same time. Hinged doors offer full flexibility but require more space in front of the wardrobe. The most practical solution for a tight space is sliding doors with mirrors, as this doubles the use of the surface.

I would like to add to the previous suggestions: a practical Pax combination includes, besides two to three clothing rods, at least one unit with five to six drawers for smaller garments. The drawers should be sturdy and easy to open. For accessories, I recommend at least one inner drawer with dividers. It is also important to subdivide the compartments to avoid creating a large “catch-all” drawer. The length of the clothing rods should be adapted to the type of clothing; for trousers, special trouser hangers are useful as they save space.
