Are there Ikea PAX options with particularly spacious drawers?

I am currently planning my wardrobe using the PAX system and am specifically looking for drawers that offer more storage space than standard sizes. I am especially interested in whether there are frames, internal dimensions, or special versions that are suitable for larger or bulkier clothing items, such as sweaters, thick fabrics, or even bedding. I would also appreciate information regarding the depth and maximum load capacity of the drawers. My research in the Ikea catalog has been somewhat superficial, so I am hoping for firsthand experiences or concrete recommendations from the forum. Thank you!

Basically, the Ikea PAX system offers three standard cabinet depths: 35, 58, and 60 cm (14, 23, and 24 inches). Accordingly, the drawer depths vary, with the 58- and 60-cm (23- and 24-inch) options providing the most spacious storage.

- The maximum drawer width is usually 75 cm (30 inches) for the larger frames.
- Particularly spacious drawers are typically those based on full-extension slides, as they utilize the entire storage space.
- For thicker clothing or bedding, an interior depth of at least 50 cm (20 inches) and a height of at least 20 cm (8 inches) per drawer is recommended.

Another option is complementary inserts such as drawer dividers or boxes, which increase flexibility and optimize space usage.

In summary: Yes, there are spacious drawers in the PAX system—especially with the deeper cabinets and wider widths—but they are limited to the standard sizes, and custom dimensions are not available.

I can only confirm that. If you want to have especially spacious drawers, I recommend the PAX cabinets with a depth of 58 cm (23 inches). Many people think 35 cm (14 inches) is enough, but especially for sweaters or bed linens, the difference is clearly noticeable.

You can also customize the internal organization by combining wide drawers with compartments of varying heights.

A tip: buy drawers with a soft-close function; they are more durable and can handle heavier loads better. The load capacity varies but is usually around 15-20 kg (33-44 lbs) per drawer – this should be sufficient for regular clothing and even heavier fabrics.

For better clarity: Here is a brief guide on how to select and plan spacious drawers in the PAX system.

1. Choose the carcass: Ideally with a depth of 58 or 60 cm (23 or 24 inches) for more storage space.
2. Frame width: Large drawers are available up to a maximum width of 75 cm (30 inches).
3. Drawer height: There are shallow options (around 10 cm / 4 inches) and deep versions (up to 20 cm / 8 inches), the latter offering significantly more volume.
4. Consider internal dimensions: It’s best to write down the actual internal height, width, and depth.
5. Pay attention to load capacity: The maximum load is around 15 kg (33 pounds) per drawer.

This helps you avoid wrong purchases and tailor your cabinet exactly to your needs.

I believe it is worth critically considering whether spacious drawers are always the best solution.

Especially spacious drawers are usually those based on full-extension slides, as they make the entire storage space accessible.

This is true, but the ease of use can suffer if the drawers become too large and heavy. Especially when frequently accessing smaller items or folded shirts, it might be more practical to have several smaller drawers instead of one large one.

It would be interesting to know if Ikea offers modular drawers that allow adjusting the internal dimensions without losing storage capacity.

Hey everyone! I just wanted to quickly share my experience because I recently set up my PAX wardrobe with deep drawers – and I love it!

I chose the 58cm deep (23 inches) carcass and opted for the taller drawers with a height of 20cm (8 inches). They hold a lot, even thick winter sweaters and larger textiles! 😊

Also, the full-extension slides really help because you can easily access everything at the back. If you’re still unsure, you can use Ikea’s planning tool to see exactly how much space you’ll have. I would definitely do it that way! Good luck!
