Hello everyone, I am currently trying to decide which doors to choose for my new Ikea Pax wardrobe, and I have one main question: Which Ikea Pax doors are the easiest to clean?

I am looking not only for doors that match the style but also for ones that are easy to maintain in everyday use, as I have experienced that some surfaces can be very sensitive or difficult to clean. Important factors for me are surface texture (smooth, matte, textured), materials, and how prone they are to fingerprints, dust, or grease marks.

Has anyone had experience with the different Pax door options, such as high gloss, mirrored, wood effect, or sliding doors? Which ones would you recommend if easy cleaning is a priority? Any advice on care or tips on cleaning products that work well or should be avoided would also be very helpful. Thanks in advance for your insights!

Hey altanla, great that you brought up this topic! I have the high-gloss Pax doors from Ikea at home, and what can I say – they look fantastic and are really easy to clean!

Sure, with high-gloss finishes you can see fingerprints and dust immediately, but with a microfiber cloth and some all-purpose cleaner, you can remove them in seconds! I don’t use any harsh chemicals, just water and a little dish soap work perfectly.

I really enjoy it because they shine so nicely after cleaning! 😄 For me, high-gloss doors are the perfect combination of design and easy maintenance.

Just be careful with the edges, as they can be a bit more sensitive – clean those gently.

Hello altanla 😊, I can confirm what Nils58 said: gloss finish is visually striking and, with the right tools, not complicated to clean. However, I also have the matte white doors from the Pax series.

They are a bit more forgiving when it comes to dust and fingerprints, as you don't notice everything immediately, but unfortunately, small dirt particles sometimes get trapped in the fine texture, which makes cleaning a bit more time-consuming. Usually, a soft cloth and mild cleaning agents are enough.

That makes sense! If you expect a low-maintenance cleaning routine, gloss finish doors are truly a good recommendation, as long as you don’t mind a bit of damp wiping.

I can easily understand that cleaning Pax doors can be a challenge for many.

You want something that looks good and doesn’t require constant maintenance, right? I chose the wood-effect option because it feels warm and welcoming to me.

Unfortunately, cleaning hasn’t been as straightforward as I expected – the textured surface is quite noticeable and tends to collect dust. Sometimes I feel a bit overwhelmed when daily life gets hectic and time is limited.

Maybe a smooth, non-textured surface would be better for you to make cleaning really quick and easy.

How do you handle cleaning at the moment?

For better clarity:

Ikea offers the following common types of Pax doors, along with their cleaning characteristics:

- High gloss (painted): Very smooth, easy to clean, but fingerprints are quite noticeable.
- Matte painted: Less prone to fingerprints, but fine scratches may be more visible.
- Wood effect (laminated): Textured, dust accumulates in the grooves, more difficult to clean.
- Mirror: Easy to clean with glass cleaner, but fingerprints are visible.
- Sliding doors with fabric or glass panels: Fabric is harder to clean; glass cleans well but may show streaks.

Materials such as melamine or foil coatings are often more stain resistant.

My recommendation: High gloss or mirror doors offer the easiest cleaning when regularly wiped with microfiber cloths and a mild cleaning agent.

It is also important to avoid using harsh chemicals and abrasive tools to prevent damage to the surfaces.

Briefly my opinion: High gloss and mirrors are the easiest to clean.

Just one wipe, no pores or texture where dirt can settle.

I do not recommend wood grain finishes, as they require more effort.
