Hello everyone,

I am currently looking into purchasing an Ikea PAX wardrobe system for our family and would like to know which PAX variants are especially popular with families. I am particularly interested in solutions that not only provide storage space but are also practical for daily family life—such as options that work well for parents’ and children’s clothing, possibly with special compartments for kids’ items or available extensions for more flexibility over time.

I am thinking about dimensions, interior fittings like drawers, clothes rails, or shelves, as well as whether doors are recommended or if open versions are better—also considering dust protection and ease of overview. Maybe you have experience with certain combinations that have proven particularly suitable for families in everyday use.

What would you recommend when planning the PAX specifically for a family with two children? Are there models or additional features you find especially practical? I look forward to your opinions and experiences!

Hey!

I have to say, the PAX with sliding doors has always been a hit for us – especially with kids, it saves a lot of space and doesn’t get cluttered as quickly when they rush in. 😅

Also, I would definitely recommend installing some drawers and pull-outs with soft-close mechanisms; it makes daily loading and unloading much more relaxed! The combination of hanging rods for adult clothes and shelves for children’s clothing has proven unbeatable. This way, everyone has their own section and the mess stays under control. 😉

Great topic! I’m really impressed with the corner solutions Ikea offers for PAX. Especially in a family room with limited space, you can truly make use of every corner!

We have a combination of tall cabinets with adjustable shelves and small drawers that the little ones can reach themselves. This encourages the children to put their things away on their own much more. It’s definitely worth paying attention to modular interior fittings! 😍

Regarding the specific question about PAX options for families, the following can be said:

- Standard dimensions of 100x58 cm (39x23 inches) or 75x58 cm (30x23 inches) are very popular due to their size versatility.
- Sliding doors are practical in tight spaces, but there are limitations with interior fittings such as drawers, as they cannot be fully opened.
- Many families prefer a combination of clothes rails (for hanging parents’ clothing) and shelves or drawers on the lower level for children’s items.
- Doors protect the contents from dust; open shelves are easy to overview but less suitable for clothing.

For families, the option to flexibly rearrange with pegboards, clothes rails, and laundry baskets as children grow is also important. IKEA offers a wide range of accessories that make this possible.

Looking at it loosely, I think families especially benefit from the mix-and-match option that PAX offers. For the parents, you use large hanging rods, then for the kids smaller compartments, maybe even pull-out boxes, so they can organize things themselves.

I completely agree! Comfort when opening drawers is important—especially when little fingers are involved.

Briefly my experience: 2 units, each 100 x 58 cm (39 x 23 inches) with sliding doors, clothes rails at the top, and drawers at the bottom for children. Doors are necessary to keep out dust. Use PAX interior fittings.
