admirGood morning everyone,
I am currently planning my new wardrobe using the Ikea PAX system and have a specific question regarding the interior fittings. Which of the available solutions are best suited especially for storing shoes?
I am particularly interested in aspects such as stability, organization, ventilation, and flexible usability for different types of footwear – from sneakers to boots and dress shoes.
Has anyone gained experience with shelves, shoe drawers, wire baskets, or special shoe racks within the PAX system? Which interior fittings would you recommend if you want to store as much shoe volume as possible efficiently without losing overview?
I look forward to your opinions and tips!

Shoe drawers work well for smaller shoes but offer less storage space.

Hello admir,
regarding your question: The PAX system is very flexible. For shoes, combinations of shelves, wire baskets, and specialized shoe racks work well.
Shelves provide a solid base and allow for an orderly arrangement of shoes, especially if you have flat styles. Wire baskets are flexible, ensure air circulation, and are ideal for sports shoes or sneakers.
Special shoe holders or drawers are practical if you want to keep your shoes well organized and save space.
Also consider the height of the compartments: boots require more space, while sneakers or sandals need less. A combination of different interior fittings usually makes sense to use the space optimally.

Hey admir,
for shoes, I find the combination of glass shelves and practical shoe drawers perfect!
The glass shelves not only look elegant, but they also showcase the shoes wonderfully. And with the drawers, you can easily store small sneakers or low-cut shoes and quickly take them out – basically being the "ruler of the shoe jungle" in your closet.
A small tip: place some non-slip mats in the drawers to keep the shoes from sliding around. 😉

I have a question for the community: Is ventilation really that important for shoe storage in the PAX system, or is it more of a marketing claim?
Wire baskets are often said to improve air circulation, but you probably lose some stability and storage space. Does anyone have concrete experience on whether this actually makes a difference, for example with sports shoes that are often damp? Or are simple shelves with occasional airing out sufficient?
