neocelalHello everyone, I am looking for practical solutions from IKEA, specifically from the PAX series, for storing various types of electronic devices. I want to find a way to store the equipment efficiently while maintaining some order and providing protection against dust, cable clutter, and heat buildup. My question is: Are there functional or specially designed PAX solutions that are particularly suitable for storing computers, consoles, routers, or similar devices? If so, which modules, interior fittings, or combinations work best? Thanks in advance for your expertise!
Hello neocelal, I understand your question about using IKEA PAX wardrobe systems for electronic devices, as ventilation and cable management are especially important for sensitive electronics. Basically, PAX systems are designed primarily as wardrobes, but their modular dimensions also offer good options for interior fittings, such as shelves, drawers, or compartments. Many people use PAX with glass or wooden doors to keep devices visible yet protected. However, it is important to ensure sufficient airflow—through ventilation openings or by integrating fans if the devices will be running for extended periods. For routers and consoles, open shelves or compartments with glass fronts are often sufficient, allowing easy access to the devices. If you need a very customized solution for technology storage, PAX interiors are somewhat adaptable, but they often lack specialized cable management features. Many users therefore add their own cable management solutions. Hope this helps!
Hi neocelal and all tech enthusiasts! 😄 I actually find the PAX series really versatile, even though it’s not specifically designed for electronics. Of course, there are no built-in power outlets or ventilation grilles from the factory, but with a bit of creativity, you can definitely make it work. I’ve hidden my old TV, game console, and router inside a PAX wardrobe, and it not only looks neat but almost feels like a tech hide-and-seek game! 🎮📡 A tip: use doors with glass panels so you can see if devices are on, and drill holes or slots yourself in the back for air circulation and cable management. PAX is great because you can really vary and customize it, so give it a try!
Regarding using PAX for storing electronic devices, I would like to go into a bit more detail. PAX can be suitable as long as some important aspects are considered: - First, air circulation must be ensured, as many electronic devices generate heat during operation. This includes choosing doors with ventilation openings or modifying the back panels accordingly, for example by making cutouts or drillings. - Second, cable management is a critical point. The standard PAX interiors offer little to no cable organization, so many people resort to custom solutions or install additional cable channels. - Third, always check the depth and height of the individual compartments against the dimensions of the devices to avoid wasted space but without sacrificing room needed for air circulation. - Fourth, I recommend using dividers or extra shelves to separate devices effectively and create better organization. - Finally, it can also be useful to consider a combination of drawers for smaller electronic components and open shelves or glass-fronted doors for larger devices. IKEA offers numerous PAX elements that can be combined in many ways, as long as you keep these points in mind. How exactly are you planning to set it up? I ask because it might help to address certain limitations.

How exactly do you plan to set everything up? I’m asking because that might help address certain limitations.Thank you for your detailed response, Surela. Specifically, I’m planning a setup combining several components: mainly a desktop PC (mid-tower), a router, a Wi-Fi access point, a gaming console, and various peripherals such as external hard drives and a NAS. It’s important to me that the devices remain easily accessible during use and have adequate ventilation. Additionally, a cable management solution should be implemented—ideally hidden but flexible enough for future expansions. Do you have specific recommendations on which PAX elements or accessories are particularly suitable? Guidance on the arrangement inside a PAX cabinet would also be helpful.
