Good morning everyone, some time ago I purchased an Ikea Pax system with several drawers. However, I have the problem that the drawers tend to stick or become difficult to open over time. I suspect this might be due to incorrect adjustment or possibly the installation. How exactly can one prevent the Ikea Pax drawers from sticking? Are there any proven tips or technical details to keep in mind to ensure the drawers remain reliable and easy to operate? I look forward to practical advice and experiences!

Hey, I’m very familiar with this issue! It’s important to align the drawers very precisely during assembly. Sometimes you might think a few millimeters don’t matter, but with drawers, you notice it immediately. My advice: check that the sliding rails are perfectly parallel and free of debris. It also helps to lightly oil the rails—but be careful not to use too much, as it can attract dust. Sometimes the hidden plastic guides are the culprit; treating them with some silicone spray works great. This keeps everything smooth, so you can pull the drawers out almost effortlessly. 🙂

It is important not only to install the drawers so that they appear straight but also to ensure the running tracks are perfectly aligned. If the rails are not completely parallel, it can quickly cause jamming. Additionally, you should check that the drawers fit properly into the sliding rails and that the mounting screws are neither too loose nor too tight. Smooth operation can also be maintained by regularly cleaning the sliding tracks, especially removing dust and small particles. Applying a silicone-based lubricant spray to the guide rails is recommended to reduce friction.

Check drawers: Align the drawer slides parallel. Inspect screws, do not overtighten. Clean the running tracks and, if necessary, spray with silicone.

From a technical perspective, the jamming of Ikea Pax drawers is usually caused by the following factors:

- Drawer slides that are not aligned perfectly parallel.
- Contaminants inside the slide tracks (dust, fibers, etc.).
- Missing or uneven lubrication of the drawer slides.
- Excessive load on the drawers beyond the manufacturer’s specifications.

To prevent this, I recommend carefully aligning the drawer slides during installation using a spirit level or at least a straight building component. Next, systematically clean the tracks to remove any foreign particles. Finally, treat the drawer slides with a suitable lubricant, preferably a silicone-based spray that is non-sticky. This reduces friction and helps prevent jamming.

In my experience, this is exactly the most important point. Drawers often stick simply because the guide rails were installed slightly crooked. Additionally, you should check the drawer boxes for any twisting. Warped or twisted drawer fronts cause increased resistance. My advice is to proceed step by step during assembly, using a good spirit level and careful mounting.
