Hello,
does anyone possibly have patio doors that open outward?
Some time ago, we were advised against it. But maybe someone has experience with them?

@Sebastian79 ... you are basically right, but for this purpose, external-opening doors are much better equipped with hold-open catches fixed to the wall than inward-opening doors.

Googling "advantages of outward-opening windows" leads to a window supply website that explains benefits related to rain, wind, and light exposure.

It’s always a bad sign when a supplier tries to sell you on certain advantages. I also don’t see convincing reasons here—burglar protection and weather-related issues with the seals aren’t mentioned at all.

And more light? Sorry, but how much additional area would there theoretically be?

I can only speak from my own experience, where both the architect and three window manufacturers advised against it. Reasons are mentioned above.

And as I said, if it were really that great, more people would be doing it.

Thanks for your opinions!
I think we will stick with regular inward-opening doors.

I planned it myself. I definitely wanted to be able to go directly outside from the kitchen. And the cooktop fits best in this location.
But we also have a patio door just behind the island.
And the door that can’t be fully opened because of the island can at least be opened enough for me to slip through to get herbs.
So I think I will manage fine like this.
