Hello everyone,

I am currently about to install the baseboards for my IKEA METOD kitchen project. My main question is: What is the fastest and cleanest way to install the baseboards, especially for METOD, without running into common issues like uneven floors or incorrect angles?

I have read quite a bit, but I’m often missing practical tips on precise measuring and quick fastening—especially to achieve a smooth appearance without gaps or unnecessary touch-ups.

If anyone has experience with joining METOD baseboards at corners or dealing with varying wall curves, your advice would be much appreciated. Tips on useful special tools or aids are also welcome. Thanks for your help!

I recommend checking the floor carefully with a spirit level before installation and cutting the baseboards accordingly. For corners, always use IKEA’s corner connectors – they ensure clean joints.

For efficient and clean installation of METOD baseboards, the following points are essential:

- Accurately measure the lengths of the wall sections using a tape measure and record all dimensions.
- Use a spirit level to check if the floor is level. Unevenness can be compensated with suitable shims when screwing.
- IKEA METOD baseboards are specifically mounted using clips; use these instead of screwing directly.
- There are matching corner connectors available that simplify installation and ensure precise angles.

Careful preparation saves time on rework. It is important to cut the baseboards precisely before clipping them in, preferably with a fine-toothed saw for clean cuts.

I was concerned that the connectors might loosen over time. How durable are they really with frequent exposure to moisture, for example in the kitchen, or with hot steam? Does anyone have long-term experience with this?

The corner connectors are sturdy and hold well if installed correctly. It is important not to apply too much pressure, as this can cause them to break more easily. Moisture does not affect them as long as the battens are mounted properly.

That is a valid concern that is often overlooked in practice. I would add that besides the quality of the materials, the substructure and the installation angle of the strips are crucial. Even the best connector is useless if the wall is uneven or the fastening system is unstable.

Moreover, it should be checked whether the floor may settle over time or suffer slight moisture damage. This can affect stability.

For a truly clean and durable solution, I recommend additionally securing the baseboard at several points with small screws into the furniture carcass – this provides more security than just using clips. Although IKEA does not generally recommend this as standard, I believe it is especially sensible for kitchens with high usage.
