Hello everyone, I am currently planning the installation of the baseboards for my Ikea Metod kitchen project and am wondering about the best and most durable way to fix the Metod baseboards. The standard installation instructions are quite basic, and I would like to know which methods or tools you would recommend to ensure that the baseboards remain securely in place over time and can easily withstand everyday stresses, such as cleaning, bumps from the vacuum cleaner, or similar. Are there any tips or special anchors, screws, or adhesives that work particularly well? I look forward to your experiences and opinions, as stability and long-lasting quality are very important to me.

Hey Ken43, great question! 😊 With Metod baseboards, I've had excellent results using a combination of small screws and construction adhesive. First, screw them in for mechanical fixation, then apply a special wood adhesive for extra hold, which prevents any annoying wobbling. This creates a very strong bond, even if you move the baseboard around a bit. Just be careful not to screw too tightly, or the wood can crack easily.

I would recommend fitting the baseboards with appropriate dowels to improve their hold. Screws should ideally be driven into existing framing or supports, not just into the front surface. This significantly increases stability.

For a secure installation of the Ikea Metod baseboards, I recommend the following procedure: - Pre-drill the baseboards as well as the wall or substrate - Use universal wall plugs with sufficient load capacity - Choose screws sized 3.5 x 30 mm (approximately 1/8 x 1 1/4 inches) or according to the material thickness - Alternatively, metal angle brackets can be attached at the bottom of the baseboard for additional fixation - On smooth floors, applying a small amount of construction adhesive to the back of the baseboard improves adhesion - When fitting, ensure all baseboards are aligned precisely and avoid any tension that could cause them to break from movement.

How to attach baseboards? It’s not as complicated as you might think! 😄 I usually use small, discreet screws, driven through the top of the baseboard into the wood – this holds really well, is hardly visible, and after a while you really appreciate the quality of a kitchen front. And hey, a little bit of construction adhesive never hurts either; it sticks the whole assembly together like glue. Perfect for when the kids accidentally catch the baseboards with the vacuum cleaner.

I would also add that the baseboards in Metod are sometimes a bit thin, so you should avoid using screws that are too heavy-duty or applying too much torque, otherwise the baseboard may split. It’s better to use several smaller screws instead of a few large ones. For a clean look, you can conceal the screw heads with matching plastic or metal caps. Once everything is properly secured, the kitchen feels much more solid.
