Hello everyone,

I am currently about to install the baseboards for my IKEA METOD kitchen project. My main question is: What is the fastest and cleanest way to install the baseboards, especially for METOD, without running into common issues like uneven floors or incorrect angles?

I have read quite a bit, but I’m often missing practical tips on precise measuring and quick fastening—especially to achieve a smooth appearance without gaps or unnecessary touch-ups.

If anyone has experience with joining METOD baseboards at corners or dealing with varying wall curves, your advice would be much appreciated. Tips on useful special tools or aids are also welcome. Thanks for your help!

Screw fastenings are often useful, but they should be applied so that the appearance is not compromised. With METOD, baseboards can usually be drilled at the bottom edge, making the screws hardly visible afterward.

My tip: Use a cordless drill with torque control to avoid damaging the material. I also recommend using a fine miter block, as this allows for precise cutting of the baseboard at corners and prevents gaps from forming.

For a neat finish, I also suggest lightly treating the walls with acrylic sealant before installation in case small gaps appear.

Let's be honest: Anyone who spends this much time struggling with baseboard installation won’t achieve a more precise joint by scavenging IKEA connector systems. There are simply limits to how accurately you can install without specialized tools.

If you want a clean finish, it’s better to use solid wood or alternative systems and cut the material yourself. The METOD standard is designed for quick assembly – which always leaves small gaps.

Even the so-called “corner connectors” have their weaknesses. Keep in mind: the mostly thin plastic material wears down and warps over time in everyday building use.

This is true for home use. Anyone who wants to work quickly and cleanly should use the original accessories and take careful measurements. Solid materials require significantly more effort and offer little time savings.

Criticism of the IKEA systems is understandable, but for most DIY enthusiasts, the METOD baseboard system is quite practical.

Important for quick and clean installation:
- Measure everything precisely before starting and correct any floor unevenness with small leveling shims.
- Install the clips and corner connectors carefully without applying too much force.
- For corner transitions, I recommend lightly deburring the edges with fine sandpaper after cutting to minimize gaps.
- Where possible, secure the baseboards to the furniture with screws to ensure stability.

This approach allows for visually appealing results with a manageable amount of time and effort.
