onnisanHello everyone, I have a question where your experience would be very helpful: How do you properly and permanently attach the Ikea Metod baseboards on a floor with integrated underfloor heating?
I understand that there are some important considerations with underfloor heating, such as thermal expansion and surface temperatures. I want to avoid the baseboards warping or affecting the heating function.
Specifically: How do you install the baseboards, which materials or adhesives do you use, and are there any special tips to ensure a secure and clean attachment? Also, any advice on preparing the substrate or dealing with thermal expansion would be great.
Thanks in advance for your tips!

Good morning! When attaching Ikea Metod baseboards over underfloor heating, please consider the following steps:
- First, check that the surface is dry and clean, as this is important for adhesion and to prevent damage.
- Use the supplied clips if possible – these are designed to avoid drilling into the heating layer.
- Only place screws in the designated areas; never screw directly into the heating pipes or mats.
- Use adhesive only if it is suitable for underfloor heating and heat-resistant. Make sure to use specified products.
- Monitor room temperature and the heating system before and during installation, as extreme heating can stress the material.
Common mistakes include driving screws too deep or using inappropriate adhesive. I hope this helps!

Hey, very important when installing baseboards: make sure not only to protect the heating mat but also to allow the baseboard to expand with heat, otherwise you’ll end up with problems and unsightly waves! 😊
I installed my baseboards using flexible clips and left small gaps below the baseboard to allow air circulation. This way, everything stays cool – literally.

In addition to the previous posts: Proper preparation is essential.
- The screed must be completely dry and heated (run the underfloor heating system for at least one week).
- Clips are the best solution for Metod because they do not require point-specific drilling.
- If gluing, use only a PU adhesive that is heat-resistant and flexible.
- Important: With underfloor heating, always leave an expansion joint, especially at the corners between the baseboards. This expansion is often overlooked and can cause problems later.
In summary: Do not just drill or glue without careful preparation!
