Hello everyone,

We treated ourselves to a new kitchen, and I am currently assembling the wall cabinets. My wife didn’t want any door handles, and the IKEA kitchen consultant recommended a solution with the Ulustra push-open mechanisms.

During installation, I’m getting the feeling that this is a bit of a catch-22. The door dampers on the hinges don’t seem strong enough to close the push-open mechanisms. So either I am missing something, or the kitchen consultant gave us some incorrect or misleading advice.

Do you have any ideas or solutions for me?

Best regards

Franz

If you use electric door strikes, you have to push the door shut. Dampers are not really practical when used together with electric door strikes.
If the springs in the hinges were strong enough to push the striker in, then the strikers would logically be too weak to push the door open.

Hello IKEA expert,

I'm glad I was right and the lady sold us nonsense.
Can I return the dampers to IKEA even if the packaging is already opened or disposed of? I'm a beginner in this area since my wife has avoided IKEA so far.

Best regards

Hello Franz, you can return the dampers without packaging as long as you have the receipt.

Hello IKEA expert,

First of all, thank you for your quick responses.

I have now taken the original plan and compared it with the current state. I actually thought the IKEA kitchen consultant only changed one cabinet during the last visit and added the desired lighting.

But the clever guy added the unnecessary door dampers all at once, doubled the number of push-open fittings, and selected three times as many cabinet legs. At the same time, he replaced one of the otherwise gray fronts for the base cabinets with a white one and made a few other minor changes. It’s frustrating because I relied on the fact that unnecessary items wouldn’t just be added—especially those that a layperson can’t even assess properly at first.

So, I will likely use my first day off soon to return a number of items, since doing that on a Saturday probably doesn’t make much sense.

At the same time, I have a question.

I was recommended the following cabinet combination for the base cabinet under the sink:

70213569 METOD base cabinet for built-in oven/sink white 60x60x80 cm (24x24x31.5 inches)
10114218 Boholmen built-in sink / 1 1/2 basins, stainless steel 90x50 cm (35x20 inches) basin
40215522 Atlant siphon, 2
80131549 Ringskär single-lever mixer tap/kitchen steel color
90221016 Veddinge drawer front gray 60x20 cm (24x8 inches)
60221008 VEDDINGE door gray 60x60 cm (24x24 inches)
30204637 Maximera drawer, low white 60x37 cm (24x15 inches)
60204631 MAXIMERA drawer high white 60x45 cm (24x18 inches)
40204651 Utrusta drawer front, low white 60 cm (24 inches)
20269931 UTRUSTA drawer fitting for door

The lower large drawer should have the 60x60 cm (24x24 inches) door as its front. (I can’t say why the designer did it this way, maybe to allow enough space for the planned waste separation.) But I have no idea how and where to install the UTRUSTA drawer front, nor how and where to use the drawer fitting for the door. I converted and installed the door itself into a drawer front using the included drilling template, and that works, although it is a bit tricky. But I can’t understand why the listed parts would not be used.

Best regards

It's quite simple.
A 60cm (24 inch) front panel is used so that the sink is concealed by the 20cm (8 inch) front panel acting as a cover. Using an 80cm (32 inch) front panel would also increase the leverage on the front mounting.
In addition to the tall drawer, a shorter inner drawer is planned. This one is only 37cm (15 inch) deep and fits in front of the ATLANT siphon if it has been installed properly. The UTRUSTA front panel is attached to this drawer on the front.
The drawer fitting is installed at the back of the lower pull-out drawer for reinforcement. The gray parts were probably already included with the drawer, so you don’t need them. The drilling template is also unnecessary.
