Hello,
I have spent the last two months planning my new Metod kitchen in great detail, with IKEA Laxarby fronts in white. Today I wanted to place an order, but unfortunately, the online shop is acting completely unstable when I try to order the Laxarby fronts in white...
Does anyone happen to know if these Laxarby fronts are no longer available, or what might be going on? In my opinion, they were by far the nicest fronts, and I really wanted to have them...
Best regards

IKEA-Experte17 Apr 2016 22:49 Yes, I’m also considering whether there is an alternative, or if I should even carve the fronts out of wood myself. It can’t be that difficult to cut boards to size. For that alone, you would need the exact measurements and how, for example, the drawer fronts are attached to the slides. The measurements are less of an issue, but simply cutting boards to the right size is not enough. Plain wooden boards would warp over time. That’s why solid wood furniture isn’t just made from boards. The edges need to be worked on, and everything must be painted or sealed.
You can get solid wood kitchen finishes in wood colors from Möbelum or rs-Möbel.

Sandwater20 Jun 2016 10:46Hello everyone,
I wanted to check back in and give an update.
I actually bought the kitchen without fronts because I couldn’t bring myself to go with a Sävedal or any other existing option. Getting black LAXARBY in white is not easy either, and it no longer looks like real wood but rather like lacquered fronts. So now I’m making the fronts myself, using pre-cut solid wood panels from the hardware store. They offer sizes that almost exactly match the drawer fronts I chose for the cabinets. I decided on a visual layout with three drawers: one 80 x 40 cm (31.5 x 15.7 inches) drawer at the bottom and two 80 x 20 cm (31.5 x 7.9 inches) drawers above. These exact sizes are available pre-cut as 18 mm (0.7 inches) thick solid wood panels. However, I think the original fronts are a bit smaller because all three boards stacked don’t quite fit onto the cabinet. So I’ll have to plane them down a little. That works fine for me; I might still need to cut the larger panels to size, and to prevent warping, I plan to attach battens on the back. If they do warp a bit, well, that’s not too much of an issue for me since it’s a country-style kitchen anyway. It also fits well with my rustic red Swedish-style house, so everything’s good.
However, I would like to double-check whether the holes I need to drill in the boards really have to be exactly where the Utrusta drilling template indicates. When I measure on an installed drawer, the measurements don’t quite match the template. I’d rather avoid having to make the fronts several times, so I’m asking here for advice.
Thanks for reading and sunny regards

DERSCHREINER28 Jul 2017 19:24Hello,
I faced the same problem... Ikea offers a service called the Ikea Kitchen Replacement Service, where you can still get the fronts! You can also occasionally find individual parts on eBay and eBay Classifieds!
Best regards, Christoph
